Maximum Ride - The Phoenix Evolution

Chapter 2

As the sun started setting, we flew back to the cave system that we're currently living in. Fang, Iggy, Gazzy and I are currently working on building a tree house. It has floors, and walls, but were still working on the ceiling. It's looking pretty good, If I don't say so myself.

"Hey Mum!" Phoenix greeted. She walked into the cave, with Fang trailing after her. I had sent her down to a near by creek to brush her teeth, with some toothpaste we found in the city. Fang went with her.

"Hey honey. If you hop into bed, I'll send Iggy in to tell you a story!" I said. She nodded vigorously and rushed into a cave that forked off ours. Phoenix wanted to know my life story, so I set Iggy in charge of telling Phoenix a bit every night. I'm pretty sure their still near the beginning. It'll take them years to complete my life!

 Fang chucked a piece of fire wood into the fire and sat down next to me. He put his arm around me and pulled me closer to him. Nudge, Angel and Gazzy were already asleep. I have no idea why. Big day I guess. The decided to help build the tree house, so they must be tired from that.

I leant my head against his shoulder. He stroked my head.

"I'm glad your here, Max. I wouldn't want to be holding anyone else." he said. I smiled up at him.

"Not Lissa," Instantly the image of her kissing Fang when we were 14 popped into my head.

"Not Brigid," I remembered the under-aged scientist, who I thought was stealing Fang.

"Not Maya." he finished. I kissed his cheek.

"Its so sad to think that almost every human we have ever met in our lives is probably dead. Its awful." I said. He nodded.

"But at least it's peaceful. And at least I'm with you." He said, before taking my hand and kissing me.  It literally lasted 1 second, but it felt like ages. I put my head back on his shoulder and yawned.

"Don't let me keep you up. Go to sleep. Don't worry." he soothed. I nodded. Slowly, I let my eyes droop, and the next thing I knew, I was asleep.
