We stood in-front of a freshly dug hole. I held Fang and Phoenix's hand. No one spoke. The only sound was the wind, sweeping dust into the air. I stood forward, letting go of Fang ad Phoenix's hands. I looked down into the grave. Dylan's pale body lie down there. Just seeing him so limp, sent a sob through me.
"Dylan," I began
"You came, you ruined my life for a few months and I hated you. But then it turned out you weren't so bad after all. You do not know how much I want to thankyou for faking the Flocks deaths, and even though you didn't stop Jeb from killing Fang, you still sacrificed yourself. You knew how much I loved him, and you loved me so much, that you gave your life for his. So that Phoenix could have a father. And for that, I thankyou." I dropped to my feet and let years of tears come out. I felt arms wrap around me and cradle me. Finally, I stood up and stood back. Fang stepped forward.
"Hey Man. Max tells me that you gave your life for mine. Thanks. Even though I hated you for most of the time you were alive, and you tried to kill me more than once, you kept Max safe while I was gone. You let me come back to the love of my life. Thanks." Fang said awkwardly. It was sort of a bit like an Alpha Male fight between the two. Fang stepped back. The rest of the flock said something to Dylan before we began burying him. Afterwards, Iggy pulled out a piece of metal.
Here lies Dylan.
He was brave, he was caring, he was loving.
He gave his life for a good cause.
You will be missed.
R.I.P
Iggy planted it into the ground and made sure it would stay, before following the rest of the Flock back to the caves. Fang held me close to him, as I sobbed into his chest.
"Thankyou." I said to him.
"For what?" he asked.
"For saying that stuff. I know he was on your bad side for a lot of the time. You thought he replaced you." I explained, wiping tears out of my eyes.
"Max. I may have hated him then, but he was a good guy, with good intentions. He never should've died."
"But if he didn't, then you wouldn't be here!" I exclaimed. He chuckled.
"I know. I don't want to be rude, but I'm glad he did. It would've killed me to watch you on your own while I was in heaven." he says, using his sleeve to wipe away some last tears from my cheek. I'm glad Dylan finally got the funeral her deserved. Not many people in the world loved him as much as I did. and he only loved one person, but that person didn't love him back like he loved her. I wish he could've lived a fuller life.
