Richard Norland leaned against the front entrance of the hospital and took a long drag of his cigarette.
Nigel hated him smoking the things. He called them cancer sticks and was always on him about stopping smoking or at least moving to those e cigarette things. Richard was smoking less but when he was feeling stressed or anxious or just uncertain about something he tended to run for the cigarettes. Oh well, he thought as he closed his eyes and smoked on. Oh well , everyone needed at least one terrible vice to regret on the death bed. With him it would be smoking, working too much , being an awful father/ brother/ son / husband.
Across the street on the sidewalk a male jogger stopped to tie his running shoe. The man glanced at the front of the hospital and smiled coldly. This was almost perfect. Spencer needed to be punished for calling the cops. Of course it wouldn't be a serious punishment. Just a warning. To let the man know exactly what he was capable of. How close he could get.
Skip Sands reached under his tracksuit pants leg and pulled out a small black gun from its ankle holster. Then he aimed it very near the hospital entrance and Richard Norland who continued smoking with his eyes closed.
And he fired the gun. Twice. Before slipping it back in his holster and continuing along his way.
All as he smiled and thought of Spencer.
