"It's Lisa Graham calling on behalf of Alley Graham. She won't be coming to school today."

I can hear mum in the other room calling my school. She told me to stay in bed. The longer I sit here, the worse I feel. She's barely said anything to me since she found out about it last night.

"Who's the father?" She was saying as she entered the room. She paused before the word father as if it was the worst thing she has ever said.

"Uhh, Charlie Addison"

"I see" these words were full of sting.

"Do you know him?"

"No. I have heard of him though. His parents are..."

"Yes" I said not needing her to finish. Charlie was taken away from his parents when he was 13 because they were drunks who weren't seen fit as parental figures. Charlie now lives with his uncle and aunt who are model citizens. Brenda is a councillor of sorts and Mark is a sex ed teacher; ironic right.

"You should call him" pulling me from my thoughts. The way she said it though sounded like she was thinking out loud. She nodded and repeated herself "yes you should call him"

"Mum I talked to him last night. He said he doesn't want anything to do with it, he doesn't want anything to do with me."

"Well I think you both need to learn how to except responsibility."

"He's not exactly the responsibility type and apparently neither am I hence..." I placed my hand and my gaze onto my stomach.

"Oh Als" she sat next to me on the bed and let me cry into her arms while she stroked my hair.
