POV :~ KRITIKA

I was in my sleep when I felt the mattress dipping beside me. I fluttered my eyes open, only to see a dark silhouette of my husband laying down beside me inside the same blanket as mine, his elbow over his head and his eyelids closed.

I don't know why, but I shifted a little closer to him, as if his heat would give me some more warmth. I was angry, I was anguished of the fact that he didn't even inform me once before leaving and directly came home at night, that too midnight, on the first day after our marriage.

Didn't even bother waking me up and was silent.

My fingers gently brushed the side of his chest, very lightly but enough for him to open his eyes with a snap and look towards me in horror,

"You scared me, I thought it was some insect!"

I chuckled, "You're scared of insects?"

He narrowed his eyes, "No. I mean—" he turned his body to face me,"— I thought you were asleep."

I nodded, "I was. Then I felt you coming to bed. And my sleep broke."

His tone was so gentle and calm when he replied in a low voice, "Sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you."

"Had your dinner?" I asked.

He nodded his head, "Yeah. Had this very important meeting today with, you remember Mr. Chibber?"

I nodded.

"With him. And we had our dinner outside itself."

I gave him a nod in acknowledgement.

"How was your day?" He asked me.

"It was good. Shreya and Aayush kept me entertained," I replied with a smile.

The corners of his lips uplifted a little.

"Should I resume my job?" I asked, catching his attention all of a sudden.

"Why will I stop you, Kritika?" He questioned me, with a smile on his face, "Whenever you wish to, you can resume. And even if you don't want to resume," he chuckled,

"Know that your husband earns enough money to fulfil all your needs."

I shook my head, "I don't need your money, Kshitij. That will never satisfy me as much as my own hard earned money."

He nodded his head, "I know. I was just saying."

"Sometimes money isn't everything you need in life," I said after a few minutes of silence between us.

"But without money you cannot even think of having a life. Isn't that true?" He replied.

"That's true. But the one who only values money, living life for him is useless," I spoke, looking into his eyes.

He chuckled suddenly, "Are you targetting me, Kritika Verma?"

Kritika Verma.

I gulped. Then my hand moved to brush the back of his palm lightly as I replied in a warm voice,

"I'm married, Kshitij, I'm your wife now."

A shadow flashed through his face, something indecipherable, and after a moment, he shifted a little close, while whispering in a low voice,

"Choti-Maa said that you cooked breakfast today.. as ritual."

I nodded my head. Lunch and dinner too, expecting you to be present on atleast any one of the three occasions.
