POV :~ KSHITIJ
There was already a lot going on for me, my wife and my family.
I had never imagined that all the problems of this world will shoot up on us right today.
It was dark around us, the sun had already set a few hours ago. But even though it was dark, his face and his expression of disgust were completely visible to me when he gazed at my wife and said,
“I will lighten up her pyre, not you, she belonged to me, not anyone else.”
That very moment, that fine moment, I lost it.
I jerked my hand away and pushed him with such an intensity that he stumbled back and caught a pillar for support. I would have run my fist right into his face for looking with such disgust at my wife if my wife herself wouldn't have held my arm and stopped me.
“Who the fuck are you to say that?” I shouted right on his face, but calmed down when a woman who happens to be my love, and although she is not her own self right now, caressed my arm with her soft fingers.
I gazed back, into her eyes, and asked softly, “Do you know him, moon?”
She shook her head.
I flew my attention back to the intruder, “Mind introducing yourself?”
He stepped forward with the silence of storm, and looked into my eyes.
“She is — my wife.”
I .. don't know what I felt right at that moment, because I wasn't able to believe my ears.
Did ..he just say that he is my father-in-law, as in my wife's father?
My gazes met Kritika, who was looking at me with the same confusion about if she heard it right or not.
“Repeat that.”
“MEERA — IS MY WIFE. DID YOU HEAR THAT?”
For a second, Kritika stumbled back, and I held her immediately to balance her. I turned around and looked at my mother for some reason.
She looked back at me, with her red teary eyes, and gave me a nod to confirm that the man standing infront of me and claiming to be my dead mother-in-law's husband is actually right.
I inhaled deeply, trying to relax and seem calm from outside when actually a storm was rising inside me.
“Why are you here?”
“Did you just miss the part where I said that she is my w—”
“Where the fuck where you when she was on her death bed and she actually needed you to speak up that you are her HUSBAND!” I yelled on his face and felt my wife flinching in my arms.
“I didn't knew she was sick. I didn't knew she was going through all this. Otherwise I would never have left her.”
“Oh please,” my mother came forward, “don't even dare to say you would have never left her when you actually did when she needed your support the most.”
“Exactly!” I added.
His face went dry for a minute. But again, fucking again, when his eyes flew up, he looked at my wife with the fucking same disgust and I couldn't just control my calm.
I grabbed his collar almost immediately and shook the hell out of him, “You keep your disgusting eyes away from my wife or I will poke them out of your sockets!”
“Who would want to look at such a girl who took my wife away from me?” He muttered and for a second I was left all but confused.
How can a father use those words for his daughter ever?
