IRENE

"No, I don't need any help. I want to do this on my own."

Kian was being stubborn as he refused to leave me alone in the kitchen while I cooked.

Back home, the cook makes all three meals and here in NYC too Kian had a cook but I told him that I would be cooking today.

I genuinely wanted to cook something for Kian and have his approval, to make him happy.

"Just go and sit there or I swear I won't talk to you," I warned him, pointing to the kitchen island.

"Oh, can you honestly go without talking to me for five minutes?" He challenged.

"Yes, I can." I waved the spatula in his direction.

He smirked, looking all smug. "Let's see."

"Fine." I accepted his challenge and went back to cooking.

I was making him tacos. His favourite and there was no way I was messing this up.

I was making it wholeheartedly and with lots and lots of love so I was pretty confident that it would turn out to be good.

When he brought me those tacos at my house, the filling was of chicken, lots of veggies and it was spicy so I tried to keep those things in mind as I cooked.

Since I was fully concentrated on my task, I didn't say anything to him as the minutes ticked by and I knew I would win that challenge.

I assembled the tacos, sprinkled grated cheese over the filling and then put it in the oven to broil.

An arm snaked around my waist, while the other wrapped just above my breasts. Kian nuzzled my ear. "You have been awfully quiet."

I glanced at the wall clock and I realised that I had gone without speaking for ten minutes straight and Kian sounded worried.

Just to mess with him, I didn't speak and started wiping the countertop with the cleaning cloth.

"Irene?" Kian pulled me further back against his chest. "Talk to me."

He placed a kiss on my cheek. "What happened to my chatterbox?"

Since he held me firmly, I couldn't move much so I gave up on the cleaning process and just stood leaning against him silently.

Pinching my chin in between his fingers, Kian tilted my face up towards him. There was a frown on his face as he cocked his head. "Are you angry at me?"

I stared at him blankly, not giving him a reply.

He pulled my chin down, forcing my mouth to open as he demanded, "Speak."

When I didn't say anything, his jaw clenched and he glared at me. "Did you lose your tongue?"

"Irene", he warned. "Say something dammit. You won, okay? You have been silent for more than ten minutes now."

On not getting any response, he groaned, bent down and pressed his lips to mine.

His lips moulded against mine perfectly and I couldn't stop myself from kissing him back.

The kiss lasted for about a minute and then Kian broke it, shooting me another glare. "If you don't start speaking, I am taking you to the doctor."

I rolled my eyes. "Now you know how it feels to not get a reply?"
