"How could I be pregnant when I was on birth control pills? Perhaps I was just feeling unwell. But what if the test came back positive? Would Adhvik be happy?" A thousand questions raced through my head, leaving me anxious and uncertain about what the future held.
A few minutes later, Kamali didi returned.
"Adhya, here’s what you asked for," she said gently, handing a bag to me. I nodded, a quick, jerky motion, as I took the bag from her hands.
My mind swirled with a mix of emotions—fear, uncertainty, hope. Should I really take the pregnancy test? A shiver ran down my spine at the thought.
Kamali didi, sensing my hesitation, placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. She gave it a slight squeeze, her eyes filled with encouragement.
"You can do this," she whispered, her smile never wavering.
Taking a deep breath, I forced myself to move. My feet felt heavy, as if weighed down by the gravity of the moment, but I reluctantly dragged myself towards the bathroom.
As I waited for the pregnancy test result, my heartbeat quickened with each passing minute.
After five minutes of anxious waiting, the result finally appeared: positive.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I took it in. Part of me was filled with happiness and excitement, but fear crept in as well—what if Adhvik wasn't ready for this?
I wanted to be certain, so I decided to confirm the result with a doctor. What if the pregnancy test was wrong? I quickly grabbed my phone and booked an appointment. Being a Singhania, I secured an immediate appointment for that evening.
I strode out of the bathroom and went to Kamali didi, informing her that the result was positive, but I wanted to confirm it with a doctor. Hearing this, she squealed with joy, grabbed some sugar, and fed me a spoonful to celebrate the good news.
Before heading to the hospital, I made sure Vihan took his nap after returning from school and asked Kamali didi to look after Vrihanika.
I instructed the driver to take me to the hospital and requested him to keep it a secret from Adhvik.
After a short drive, I arrived at the hospital. I asked the driver to wait for me and made my way inside.
The atmosphere was a mix of anticipation and nerves as I checked in at the reception.
After a brief wait, a nurse called my name, and I followed her down the corridor, my heart pounding with every step.
I entered the doctor's office and saw her sitting with a warm smile on her face.
"Good evening, Mrs. Singhania. How are you?" she inquired. I nodded and returned the greeting.
"Doctor, I think I'm pregnant. I used a pregnancy kit, and it came out positive, but I wanted to confirm it with a professional." She gave me a curt nod before beginning the examination.
After a few minutes of examination, asking questions, and conducting an ultrasound scan, the doctor looked up with a smile.
"Congratulations, Mrs. Singhania, you are 1 month pregnant," she said warmly.
