LANA MASON
Yesterday might have been the greatest day of my life when I found out that Harry and I are having a little boy. I thought I wanted a girl, but as soon as I saw that blue cake, I had never felt so happy in my life, or at least I can't quite compare any other moment of happiness to it. It's not like I know what the baby will look like just because I know the gender, but I can certainly begin to imagine the rest of our lives with him and what raising him might be like. I can't wait for all of it.
I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about whatever the answer to the gender was, so I booked the party the day before Halloween just to ensure that today would be a great day if the party was a bust, and now I'm just on a roll. With Jackie's help, I found a black body conforming onesie of a skeleton, but there's also a baby skeleton over my belly. So, while I'm a pregnant skeleton, Jane gets to be Jessie from Toy Story, and Harry is a skeleton as well. It only makes sense.
"Oh my God, I love this," I crack up laughing with my hands on my belly. "Look how cute he is!"
Harry offers a chuckle. "Yeah, it's funny."
"You look great, too," I turn away from the mirror in our bathroom to see his looser skeleton costume. "You're a hot skeleton."
He smiles a little, but it's barely there. Usually, he'd smirk and make a joke, and he'd likely hold my face in his hands to kiss me. Instead, it seems like he doesn't really want to look at me or he doesn't know what else to say. He was quiet before he left for work yesterday afternoon as well, and then I didn't get to see him when he got home because I had already gone to sleep. I'm not sure what the deal is.
"Are you okay?" I ask.
"Mm," he nods, running his hand down his mouth and then turning to see himself in the mirror. I think he's pretending to fix his hair.
"Are you upset that we're having a boy?"
His brows furrow as he turns his head to look at me. "No, of course not."
"Well?" I raise my brows. "You've been a bit off today and I'm not exactly sure why, but I know that you weren't as excited as you should have been to find out that we're having a boy."
"Lana, that's ridiculous, of course I'm happy to be having a boy," he assures me. "You know that I never had a preference."
"Okay, I'm ready to get into my costume!" Jane calls out before she appears in our doorway. "Can you help me, Lana or Daddy?"
"Yeah, I'll help you, angel," Harry is all too eager to leave me in the bathroom with an unfinished conversation between us. An important unfinished conversation, no less. If I had to guess, I'd say that he's stressed about the restaurant and that's fair. I don't appreciate the attitude, especially on such a special day as yesterday, but I understand.
"Alright, how's it going in here?" I smile prematurely before even seeing Jane in her red braided wig and cowgirl costume. Now I'm laughing because she looks absolutely adorable. "Look at you!"
"I'm Jessie!" She places her hands on her hips and pops the right one to the side.
"You look exactly like her," I walk into her room and cup her face. "Should we give you some freckles?"
"Mhm," she smiles sweetly up at me before following me back to my and Harry's bathroom.
After stippling brown liquid liner in freckle-like dots on her nose and cheeks, and adding some rosy pink blush, I send a picture to her mom and Jameson. They have a party to attend tonight, but I know Allison must want to at least see how cute her daughter looks.
