Darius:The funeral ended several hours ago and we all stayed with Giovanni for over one while everyone left. After that, he'd told us to go, wanted to sit there alone for a bit. We understood and told him to let us know when we was home, which he did after another two hours. We asked him to join us at Angel's or offered to stay with him at his own home but he refused both, wanting to be alone.
And so here we are now, all of us in Angel's entertainment room, spread out across the three sofas, partly unsure, partly resolved.
"Sure we shouldn't check on him?" Oakley asks aloud to no one in particular.
Luca pats his shoulder. "Let's let him be for a while, Oak."
"I just wish there was something we could do for him." Althea frowns.
Angel tightens his arm around her and kisses her head as she leans on him. "We can. We can be there for him. That's all we can do."
"I can't imagine how he'll feel." Maddy shakes her head. "Being alone in that house. All of his family gone..."
"He'll be okay, Maddygirl. He's strong." I remind her. "Stronger than even he gives himself credit for."
She nods, looking down at her and Lucas' joined hands.
We fall into a respectable silence again.
We all knew her, if some of us only for a short while. We all mourn her.
The only exception is Jere, but he'd only first met Gio not that long ago. Even still, Giovanni welcomed him to his grandmother's funeral as a friend.
I look down at Tella, who's tucked under my arm. Moving her hair out of her face, I lean down to her ear. "You okay?"
"Mhm." She hums.
"Tired?"
She nods.
"Wanna go to bed?"
She shakes her head. "We should stay."
"If you're tired, we can go."
"I'm fine."
Pressing my lips to her hair, I let out a sigh.
"He will be, too." I murmur. "Don't worry."
After staying for a few days, it was time for us to go back home.It has only been around half an hour since we set off but Donatella has been sound asleep for the entirety of it, closing her eyes as soon as she was seated.
It seems to only be a short nap though because her kids begin to flutter open.
"Awake?" I ask.
"Yeah." She sits up a little. "Sorry."
