July, 1995.
Today was the first day since summer holiday started that Joey and her mates would all be together.
Devonte had been terribly busy because both sides of his parents' families came over for two weeks. His manor was hectic and he barely had time to write to his mates.
Imani had actually gone over to his manor on her own to spend some time with him and his family—as a couple. Devonte offered the same stay to Joey and Nayun, but Nayun had gone to Luna's and Joey sort of sought for a few days to herself.
She didn't even take the Triwizard Cup with her home. Didn't want it. So she gave it to Fleur Delecour's sister and told the little girl that Fleur was actually the winner. She won the third task, but she tried to save Joey from Viktor Krum before claiming her victory.
Joey used the time to herself as self-care days. She went out to shop for herself and treat herself. She went on walks along trails and jumped from a cliff into a body of water below.
She ate junk some nights, stayed up late to watch horror movies, and then tried to bake stuff the next day. She followed recipes and blasted music through the boombox she purchased from a secondhand store.
She deserved to have days like this to herself. Self-care days. They were important and humane.
Though, there was one particular night when she went out to a bar. Not for any particular reason, but because she hadn't been to one at all before.
She dressed up all nice and sat at the bar with a sweet cocktail. She was debating on taking anybody back to the flat for a one-night stand since it was empty, but that didn't happen.
Instead, drunk on the couch in the flat, she found herself debating on writing to Draco. She listed the pros and cons in her head as she munched on crackers because she got hungry.
The pros; she could have sex with him, they could hang out, they could talk to catch up, and they could spend time together.
The cons; things could be misread, they actually would have sex, this could ruin things for their healthy and mutual ending, and he was her ex. Sometimes exes were things you did not go back to.
Since, the cons had obviously outweighed the pros, she did not write to Draco. She just fell asleep on the couch and slept off the frisky sensation that tickled her veins.
And ever since school ended, she caught herself thinking about him. About Draco. What he was up to. What his summer plans were. Who he was with. If he was seeing anybody.
She even wondered how his parents were. If their relationship with their son had gotten better—Lucius specifically.
Short answer—Joey did miss Draco. His company and his voice especially. This was normal, right? To miss an ex? It was. Surely.
But to pick her up out of that bubble of longing, her roommates had come home and together, they finally discussed the topic of moving somewhere else.
Joey, Nayun, and Imani didn't plan on moving out of the flat anytime soon, but they sat down together and thoroughly discussed a solid plan for it. They would save up and upgrade from a flat to a townhome, perhaps. Or a semi-detached home.
A detached home was far too over their budget, as they wanted to buy another car. This time, a brand-new one. Plus with all the extra shopping for the new place, a detached would be way too expensive and they'd be in debt.
"Joey! Can you get the door! It's Von!"
Said girl's eyelids lifted and hazy shapes took her vision. She blinked slowly and registered that it was Imani who called to her from the bathroom, after just having been done with a shower.
