Chapter Twenty Seven:

Inside the estate, Giyu stood in his stance, his chest heaving as he tried to read the demon’s movements.

Though renowned as one of the strongest Hashira, he still wasn't at full health.

His left arm ached and the stitches on his chest throbbed with every breath. The demon, sensing his struggle, taunted him.

"Why do you cling to life so desperately?" the demon sneered. "I can see you're struggling. You know you can't kill me without dying yourself."

Giyu's glare hardened. He remained silent, unwilling to engage in the demon’s twisted banter.

"It's not like I'm afraid of dying, by the way," the demon continued, pacing slowly closer. "I'm just upset that I won't get one final meal before I go. But if I die now, I'll drag you along with me."

With a wicked grin, the demon moved at supersonic speed, dispersing into a blur and reappearing behind Giyu. The Hashira spotted him just in time and dodged, but the maneuver sent him crashing into the wall.

The impact jarred his injured arm, making him wince in pain. His grip on his sword faltered, and every breath sent a sharp ache through his body. Yet, he refused to give up.

He thought of everything he would lose if he surrendered—everything worth living for, and most of all, (Y/N). The determination to protect her and his comrades fueled his resolve.

"I won’t let you win," Giyu muttered through gritted teeth, forcing himself to stand tall despite the pain.

The demon laughed mockingly. "Pathetic. You’re barely standing."

Ignoring the demon's words, Giyu tightened his grip on his sword with his good hand. His eyes remained sharp and focused.

He thought of (Y/N) and the promise he had made to himself to protect those he cared about.

'This was supposed to be about me and (Y/N)— We're supposed to be happy and laughing, relishing in each others company right now. How did it end up like this?'

The demon lunged again, but this time, Giyu was ready. He sidestepped the attack, using the demon’s momentum against him. With a swift, precise slash, Giyu landed a blow that sent the demon reeling.

"Why do you persist?" the demon hissed, clutching his wound.

Giyu’s voice was steady, filled with unwavering resolve. "Because I have something worth fighting for."

The demon snarled and lunged once more, but Giyu, drawing upon every ounce of strength and skill he had left, met the attack head-on.

His movements, though strained, were fluid and deliberate, a testament to his training and indomitable spirit.
