AFTER THE BOYS HAD LUNCH AND NIGHT HAD FALLEN, KIM, EMILY, AND ANNABEL WERE DELIRIOUS WITH THEIR OWN LAUGHTER.This would mark her third sleepover at the Uley residence with the two girls and every single one had been the best. They only ever had them when Sam was working nights at Lahote Mechanics but Annabel didn't mind.
Their cheeks were flushed and sweat was beading on their forehead by the time they had finished their individual rants on people. It was mostly Kim going on and on about people but Emily and Bel chimed in at times.
"God, I hate that bitch," Kim said, officially wrapping up her speech about some girl named Sarah she used to go to school with. Bel didn't know the girl but she definitely saw the disdain just by what Kim told her about her.
Emily giggled, her cheeks beginning to calm, "You've said that about the last seven people, Kim,"
"Well, if people would be so goddamn stupid, I wouldn't have to hate!" She defended.
A bark of laughter left all three girls at the serious tone she seemed to have as she said the words. Whenever they were together, it seemed nothing could ever get to them; like nothing could go wrong.
It was weird for the Summers girl. She hadn't been in the area for long but whenever she was anywhere in La Push she just felt so safe — so protected.
Unfortunately, their blissful evening was quickly shattered as the sound of a slamming door hit their ears. It startled all three girls, each sharing a look with one another.
After a silent debate, it was decided that they'd get up off the floor to go investigate which one of the boys got on Sam's nerves this time.
"I fucking told her Cullen was a creep," Jacob's voice could be heard as soon as they entered the kitchen. The sheer rage in his voice slightly scared the blonde girl but she wouldn't admit it, "I told her to drop him. Nobody ever fucking listens to me!"
A few of the boys that had straggled along were quick to get to Sam's house. The bunch consisted of Embry, Paul, and Jared; each looking just as equally as annoyed as Sam did in the moment.
"Cullen?" All heads turned in the direction of Bel, her soft voice contradicting Jacob's, "who are you talking about?"
His seething anger had quickly been pushed onto the blonde as he turned to her, "You want to defend the fucking Cullen's so bad, Annabel. Bella? You know her?"
Annabel wanted to cry at the way his voice seemed to raise an octave with his eyes burning into hers and it didn't go unnoticed by Paul. But she shook her head yes nonetheless.
"Yeah, well she's been my friend for years. Closest person I ever had to me — besides my dad. When she got with Edward Cullen, she changed. It was like, all of a sudden, nobody else in the world mattered but him. So, you don't see anything wrong with Antonio? Just wait until your sister drops you like nothing."
A warning growl slipped from Paul's lips as soon has Jacob had finished talking. But it didn't matter. Because when someone began speaking poorly on Annabel's family, she didn't need someone else to defend her. It was like her bubbly exterior melted and everything in the world hardened.
"Don't talk about Caroline like that, Jacob," she snapped, "you haven't met my sister; you don't know her. I'm sorry Bella did that to you but you have no right to piss off your anger on her or me."
To say Paul and the others were shocked would be an understatement. They had yet to see this side of Annabel. The side that was quick to shut someone up and didn't think a second about how they might feel after.
Jacob's chest rose and fell fast. He went from frustrated to absolutely pissed in mere seconds. Sam was quick to pick up on this, "Jacob, calm the hell down."
It didn't matter if Sam had given the gag order to remove the girls from the room or not because it wasn't shortly after those words were spoken that Jacob had jolted from the room, shifting just outside the threshold of the door.
Annabel's eyes had fucking bulged out of their socks. She could tell the boy was pissed. She knew there was something slightly off about the people on the Reserve because she wasn't stupid. Their random work hours, the way they were always shirtless, and most importantly, their body temperature.
It didn't take a genius to realize there was something seriously off about the group but she never thought on pressing them for answers because frankly, she didn't really care.
To Annabel, if someone was kind to her and didn't pressure her for information, she had no right to do anything but the same to them.
But now, as she watched Sam and Jared rush after the wolf that was literally Jacob and Embry and Paul rushed over to the girls side for protection, her heart dropped to her feet and she felt like the blood was rushing in her body.
In all her years, all the moves and all the sudden changes she had to endure, she hadn't ever thought that one day she would see what was once a man turn into a large beast just because he was throwing a hissy fit.
Paul turned around to face the girl, nothing short of worry and concern swimming in his eyes, "Bel. Hey, Bel, look at me. I can explain, okay? I just need you to try to not freak out."
That was the last thing the blonde had heard before her legs seemed to collapse on her and her eyes fell heavy. All she felt as she went down was the feeling of warm arms wrapping around her.
