ANNABEL'S MIND WAS RACING A MILLION THOUGHT PER MINUTE AS SHE FINALLY PULLED INTO HER DRIVEWAY.

Paul was still there, she noted as she got out. The lights in her room were still on and the ghost of a shadow was stood at her window.

Once she made it into the house and had grabbed a water from the fridge, she drifted into her bedroom. A smile pulled onto her lips the second she saw the man. "Hey, Lahote,"

"Hey, Annie," He smiled at her.

But Annabel was just as good as Paul was. If something was up with the man, she was quick to point it out. "Hey, are you okay? You seem stress."

They met in the middle, his hands finding their way to her waist as her hands migrated to his biceps. "Yeah, there's just some stuff going on."

Suddenly, the pieces started to click in her head. "It's about Bella, isn't it?"

With furrowed brows, Paul replied, "Uh, yeah. How'd you know about that?"

An unamused laugh left her lips, "It's a long story. But I found out about the Cullen's and Bella's baby."

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I wanted to, trust me, but—,"

"Paul," as if a switch had been flipped, all Paul's rambling had muted, "It's okay, I promise. I mean, I was thrown for a loop when I found out but I understand why you didn't say anything."

A sigh of relief left the russet-skinned boy, "That's good."

"Now, whats going on with Sam?"

A new tension found its way to the surface. "He thinks we should kill it."

Annabel's heart sank at his words, "What?"

He shrugged, "I mean, think about it, Annie. We don't even know if it's a baby in there. It could be dangerous."

Her arms fell slack at her sides as she stared up at the man, incredulously. "And what if it is a baby, Paul?"

A tightness coupled in Paul's chest, "But what if it's not?"

Annabel scoffed, "She wants to keep it. I'm sure if it's something to be worried about, the Cullen's will get rid of it. But until then, she wants to keep it and they're respecting her decision. As you guys should be."

"Annabel, it's dangerous. We can't assume anything—,"

"Then why are you guys so easily assuming it's dangerous?" She asked with a raised brow.

Paul deadpanned, "Because assuming it's dangerous is the safest course of action."

"Safe doesn't mean better."

"You're right," Paul's expression softened, "I know it's not. But, Annie, sweetheart, if this thing could put you in danger, I'm not taking any chances."

"And who the hell are you to make that choice!"

Annabel backed away from the boy, her face filled with disbelief at his words. She couldn't grasp how he'd ever let fear override his reason.

Paul's arms fell to his sides. "I'm not the one making the choice. Sam is. He's the Alpha, what he says goes."

A sigh left the blondes lips, "And do you agree with him?" she looked at the man with a new hope twinkling in her eyes. The longer the silence played between them, the quicker it diminished, "You do, don't you?"

"I told you, Bel," he spoke up, his heart aching, "if there's a chance of it hurting you, I don't want to risk it."

Disappointed grew onto Bel's features. Her heart felt heavy and her eyes were failing to blink away her tears. She just wanted to do what she thought of right. And that was support Bella through her decisions until it came down to the birth.

A single tear slipped past her as her arm pointed to the door, "Go home, Paul,"

He looked at the Summers girl with utter disbelief. "Annabel, don't let this get between us. This isn't even our damn child!"

"You're right, Paul, it's not! Yet for some fucking reason you and Sam and whoever the hell else decided they could play God, has went ahead and made the choice for a baby that isn't theirs."

"Annie, don't do this."

"I'm not doing anything but telling you to go home. I have to think."

"An—,"

"Go, Paul. Please just go."

At the sound of her voice cracking, it was then that Paul's heart shattered into a million pieces. He hadn't expected this to happen when she got home.

The tears began to fall from her eyes faster as she saw it happen. The way his face contorted between complete heartbreak and a tinge of anger. She couldn't decipher if the anger was pointed to her or not but she didn't care anymore.

She just needed him to go.

And once the russet-skinned boy had exited the room and she heard the sound of the front door slam, is when she had finally allowed her own heart to shatter onto the floor.

With her head in her hands and her tears spilling onto her carpet, Annabel wished for the first time since she moved to small town Forks that they hadn't ever went.

Her life was as simple as possible before this place. She had her sister and the occasional annoying moves but she never once had vampires and shifters to deal with. She didn't have the damn supernatural in general.

Her life was normal.

And as she heard the piteous howl that Paul let out the second he had made it outside, the tears fell faster. At the rate she was going, Annabel feared she'd sop out all her tears.

Never once in the girls life had she wished more than now that Caroline wasn't at work.
