THE BRIGHT LIGHT OF THE WASHINGTON SUN SLOWLY SEEPED THROUGH ANNABEL'S EYES.
She fluttered them open, finding herself curled up in the passenger side of her older sister's Toyota Sienna, the blanket draped across her, warm against her skin.
"How far out are we?" Annabel asked, the grogginess of her voice almost making it sound foreign.
Caroline looked over her now awake sister, "Uh, I think about fifteen minutes or so."
Annabel nodded her head, her eyes still trying to adjust to being awake again. She grabbed her water bottle, taking a quick drink before uncurling herself to sit properly in the seat.
"So how's this all gonna work? Here in Washington." Annabel asked.
"Well, you're graduated now. So, you have this summer to decide how you're wanting to go about your future. Until then, you just let yourself adjust to this. I'll be working at the Forks Hospital; they had, like, a last minute RN position open up."
"But aren't we living in La Push? That like neighboring town or whatever,"
Caroline shook her head, "I'm not sure what town we're living in. It's really secluded and just absolutely surrounded by forestry,"
Bel crinkled her nose, a grimace nearing, "Forestry? Dude, Care, we're gonna get mauled by a bear."
"Bel, seriously," Caroline shook her head at her sister's dramatics, "I'm sure if they were worried about bear maulings, the house wouldn't have been sold."
Annabel raised a brow, "Uh, actually, they wouldn't care as long as the house is sold, most likely."
"Okay, smart ass," Caroline rolled her eyes at her sister but a fond smile was plastered on her lips, "lay your ass back down and go to sleep."

Annabel shut her door, the sound echoing around the vast woods. Caroline gathered the new house keys, going to unlock the home and do a quick walk through.
She veered around her surroundings, looking into the forest, the woodland creatures all doing their supple jobs just under her nose. She smiled.
Through the seventeen-year-old swore a forest-surrounded home sounded hellish, she truthfully didn't mind it all that much.
"All good," Caroline said, rounding the car to start bringing her things inside.
Annabel nodded, moving to do the same. The house was three bedrooms with Caroline getting the master so whatever room she chose not to take, her older sister would make into an office or guest room.
She grabbed her first set of bags, setting down a few at the door before walking in. Annabel had only gotten an idea of the house from pictures.
Caroline had actually made the forty-three hour drive herself before buying it, making it a two week vacation while Annabel finished up her senior year.
She walked through the home, the open concept surprising her. Caroline was always one for closed and small; this house seemed to oppose that.
There was a large window almost the size of a wall overlooking in the living room and kitchen. She walked past it all, though, moving to the hallway.
The number of rooms gave her a choice and so she looked between the two rooms. One was a little bigger but the closet bathroom was the guest one across the house. It also seemed to have windows that only faced the front of the house.
The other room, on the other hand, was a little smaller but the windows faced two different directions — neither facing the front. It had an attached bathroom and a large closet; it was perfect.
The walls were a cream white and Annabel would be lying if she said she had even the slightest bit of patience to paint it so white it was.
She sat the bags down that she had before grabbing her others. Just as she was making her way in, the faint sound of a dog's bark got her attention.
Annabel smiled, "Lady," she began walking over to the car, setting down the bags she had just picked up, "I almost forgot about you, sweet girl! Come here,"
Picking up the small Yorkshire Terrier, Annabel continued with her bags, grabbing the second group of them. She walked back to the room she chose, setting them down on the floor.
A few days before they were set the arrive, Caroline had some movers put in some of the larger furniture like their beds and the couches so they didn't have as much to do, at least.
"Sit on down, girl," she said, setting the small dog down before grabbing on the bags and putting them on the bed as well.
She dug through it, grabbing just what she was looking for, "Here's your bed, Lady,"
The dog barked, its tail wagging as she set the small pink bed down next to her, the dog immediately finding it.
"Hey," Caroline said in the door frame. She had her purse and the keys in hand, her hair now thrown up in a messy bun, "I'm gonna go pick us up some pizza or something; get Lady some food. Need anything else while I'm out?"
"No, thanks, though," Annabel smiled.
"Alright. I'll be right back, love you."
"Love ya, too!"
As the older girl walked out of the home, Annabel continued unloading her things. She smiled at her small dog, a newfound feeling of comfort rising in her chest.
This was their home now and Annabel was no longer opposed to the idea of it.
