Don't visit Luke in the slammer? Yeah right.

It was late, and I laid in my hammock waiting a significant amount of time before I was sure everyone was asleep. It never took very long - everyone was so busy throughout the days, they were always tired at night.

I quietly got up and walked out of the Homestead. I grabbed a lit torch and walked over there - while looking around, making sure no one was actually awake. With the Slammer still several feet away, I began to hear rustling.

Then someone grabbed my arms from behind. I exhaled. I didn't plan on getting caught. "I had to use the bathroom" was all I could think of in my defense.

"Seriously? I know it's dark, but you're bloody going the wrong way."

Newt's arms released and I could now turn to face him. I felt better knowing it was just him. "I'm sorry. I didn't realize it was you," I said. "What are you doing out here? You're not a Bagger."

"I know I'm not. Alby told me to keep watch for two hours before I sleep. He had a feeling you'd try to go see the greenie."

"Why did he ask you?" I asked.

"Don't worry about it."

"I just want to talk to him for five minutes. That's all."

Newt exhaled, and didn't look at me. "Two minutes."

"Three."

"Go."

I ran over to the Slammer, and hoped Luke wasn't in some deep sleep so I'd waste time waking him up. "Luke!" I whispered loudly.

"Who's there!?"

"It's me," I said, in a quiet voice, encouraging him to speak equally quiet so we wouldn't wake anyone up. "Jenessa."

He didn't say anything.

"Okay, well, I just wanted to say that if you're going to get along here, you have to listen to what people are telling you to do. No one knows why we're here, but we get along. Tomorrow you have job training." I stopped talking, feeling like Luke wasn't even listening to what I was saying. "Luke, why do you know my name?"

"I don't know. Why do you know mine?"

"Shuck, I don't know. It's never happened here at the Glade, and you're really freaking people out."

"What the hell does shuck mean?"

"It's just the slang here. You'll catch on."

"Jen." His arm slipped through the door, and grabbed my arm so I'd look at him. His touch sent shivers down my spine. "I don't know why, but I feel like I should know you, and you should know me."

"Okay," I said, glancing over at where Newt was standing a while ago. It's probably been three minutes. "Well, I should go. I might get in trouble for this." I didn't give Luke a chance to say anything, because I was already walking away. I walked back to the Homestead, put the torch back where it was, and went to sleep.

________

The next day, I got up to work in the gardens. I was told that Alby had gone with Minho into the Maze, because Minho wanted to show him something. I wasn't told much, but I didn't really care. I guess they were trying to find a way out of here, but I haven't been here long enough to want to leave. I also don't remember anything besides the Glade, and I have nothing to miss.

The alarm blared throughout the Glade, and everyone seemed to drop what they were doing. I immediately looked at Newt, who had taken his jacket off from the heat of the sun. "Bloody he-"

"Why is the Box coming up?" Gally demanded, walking around. His eyebrows looked more flared than usual. He looked at me when he walked by, as if I knew. "We just got a greenie yesterday!"

"I can't handle any more greenies," another Track-hoe groaned. I gave him a dirty look because I was the greenie before Luke came.

30 minutes after the alarm, we all gathered around the Box. "It doesn't feel right without Alby," Newt said to Gally, as Gally was opening the doors.

"Someone has to be in charge today," Gally said. He jumped into the Box and I saw the teenage guy sitting in a corner. He was really tan, and looked Asian - but wasn't.

And the only way I knew he wasn't Asian was because I knew who he was. At least, I knew his name. Calum.  "Hey," Gally said. "Welcome to the Glade-"

Calum jumped up and shoved Gally onto the floor of the Box and began beating him up. It took a few seconds for everyone to realize that Gally was actually getting the klunk beaten out of him, but a couple of the stronger boys jumped into the Box to pull Calum away. "Who the hell are all of you?! What am I doing here?"

Luke appeared next to me. "I didn't realize everyone was over here-"

I looked at him when he stopped talking abruptly. "What?"

"Calum." Luke said, looking at the greenie. "I know him."

How did Luke knew who Calum was too?
