Evelyn POV:

Once Shadowheart and I left the goblin camp, we walked around before returning to our camp. Shadowheart and I held hands, and I was on alert looking around to notice anything that moves, but there was nothing. Shadowheart noticed I was very cautious. 'Evelyn?' I looked at Shadowheart softly. 'Yes, Shadowheart?' I smiled, and Shadowheart rubbed my hand. 'Are you okay?' I sighed with a smile. 'Yes, I am. I'm just looking around, that's all,' Shadowheart looked around. 'Oh, is there something in particular you're looking for?' I joined Shadowheart. 'Movement.' Shadowheart sighed softly. 'Evelyn, why do you think someone is always watching?' I looked at Shadowheart. 'You can never be too careful. That's when they strike - when you think it's safe, but really it's not.' Shadowheart looked at me sadly. 'Evelyn, did something happen in your past with someone watching and then attacking you?' I looked away. 'They didn't attack me, but they attacked someone I used to love. She was attacked by assassins, hiding in invisibility. She didn't know until it was too late.' I sighed softly. 'If I was there, she wouldn't have died, but she didn't die alone. I was there comforting her until she passed in my arms.' I closed my eyes, and Shadowheart hugged me closely. 'I'm sorry, Evelyn. I didn't mean to bring back bad memories.' I smiled and hugged her back. 'Don't be sorry, Shadowheart. You didn't know.' I rubbed her head, and I sighed sadly as Shadowheart looked at me and rubbed my cheeks. I opened my eyes to look at Shadowheart. 'That's why I'm always on alert. I don't want anyone to share the same fate as my beloved.' I hugged Shadowheart protectively and hid my face in Shadowheart shoulder. Shadowheart, rub my back softly. 'Is there something that helps you feel at ease?' I lift my head to look at Shadowheart. 'Yeah, you and Gale have made me look at this world anew, but I need you close by me to make sure I don't attack anyone who's innocent... because I still think everyone is an enemy.' Shadowheart smiles softly. 'Well, you know I'll never leave your side, Evelyn.' I smile at Shadowheart. 'I know, I appreciate it. Should we continue walking?' I hold Shadowheart's hand, and Shadowheart holds my hand close and nods. 'Of course, Evelyn.' Shadowheart and I walk until we hear someone grunt in pain. I see fire, I pull Shadowheart behind me, and I see a tiefling who's on fire. I slowly walk towards her... I notice her horns, one is broken off; she seems familiar. Then Shadowheart tries to help her, and the tiefling looks up at us fast. 'Hold it, soldier, it's hot.' I stand in front of Shadowheart with my dagger ready. Then the tiefling looks at me. 'Wait a minute, do I know you from somewhere? I know I've seen your face before.' Shadowheart looks at the tiefling. 'On the ship?' She looks at Shadowheart with a smile. 'Maybe, yeah, I saw you guys on the ship.' I clutch my dagger as I remain silent, and the tiefling smiles. 'I'm Karlach, and you are?' I look at Karlach cautiously, and Shadowheart sighs softly. 'I'm Shadowheart, and this is Evelyn.' Karlach looks at me. 'Evelyn?... Evelyn... why does your name sound so familiar?' I look at Shadowheart, and Shadowheart shakes her head. Then I look at Karlach as I pull my dagger away. 'You probably know me from the tales in the Underdark; I'm very known there, apparently.' I sigh deeply, and Karlach walks towards me. I look up at her, pull Shadowheart behind me closely, and Karlach notices. 'Easy, soldier, I'm not going to hurt anyone, I promise.' I don't take my eyes off her. 'I'll see, Karlach.' I look at her cautiously, and Karlach sighs softly. 'Why do you think I'm an enemy, soldier?' I look at her, then sigh softly, and Shadowheart hugs me. 'Evelyn doesn't trust anyone outside of our group; she can be very cautious and protective.' I hold Shadowheart's hand softly and calm down. Then Karlach smiles. 'That's understandable, but I'm one of the good guys, I promise.' I cross my arms. 'You keep saying that, yet-' I see Karlach bleeding. 'You're hurt, who hurt you?' Karlach sighs. 'Posers who dress up as Paladins of Tyr... they're on top of the hill in that building.' She points to a house. 'But I did a number on them, though.' I look up at the hill. 'Shadowheart, bring Karlach to camp; I'll take care of the fake Paladins. I'm done with imposters.' I start walking, but Shadowheart stops me. 'You're not fighting another group of fake Paladins, Evelyn.' I look at Shadowheart with a smile. 'I promise I'll be careful this time.' Karlach looks at me. 'Soldier, they're-' I point at Karlach. 'No, you're going to the camp with Shadowheart, you're injured. I don't want to hear you.' I say in a strict tone and look at Shadowheart. 'Bring her to camp; I promise these fake Paladins are nothing.' Shadowheart looks worried. 'Fine, but if they injure you, please come see me right away this time.' I smile. 'I promise.' Shadowheart hugs me before she returns to camp with Karlach. Once they're gone, I walk up the hill to the house. I got there, and once I opened the door, the guy looked at me: "So, we heard you're helping the war devil? She's a monster, and we're taking her." I look at the guy very annoyed: "She's under my friend's protection. If you want to see a real monster," I took out my weapon and pointed it at the guy, "here I am." The girl sneaks up behind me, and I hear her. I grab her and throw her at the guy, and they both fall. "A pity, I was hoping for a good fight from you fake tyr paladins." I walk towards them, and the guy stands up and tries to knock me down, but he misses me and falls on his stomach. "Such a shame, little fake paladin." I stab through his leg, and the guy screams in pain. I look at the guy: "You should pick a different hobby, honestly. Hunting down a tiefling is pathetic." The girl runs at me, and I kick her out the window. I look back at the guy as I'm about to finish him off, but there's another woman pushing me off him as I'm standing on his back, crushing him with my boot. I look at the woman who pushed me: "Another one? How fun." The guy looks at the lady who pushed me: "Run, Cyrel!" Cyrel looks at the guy: "No, Anders, I'm not leaving you with this monster."Cyrel pulled out a knife and I smiled, 'Aw, you think your weapon is going to scare me?' I threw my dagger at Cyrel's hand as she dropped her weapon. 'You don't even have a good grip, yet you want to fight me?' Anders kicked my leg, but he was terrified because my leg didn't move. I looked down at him. 'Oh, what's the matter? Your cheap shot didn't work?' I stomped on his bad leg as he screamed again. 'Cyrel, save yourself. Let lady Zariel know we failed her.' I smiled. 'That's cute, thinking one of you is escaping me.' Cyrel looked very terrified, and I looked at her. 'What's the matter?' I finished Anders by slicing his head off. As I walked to Cyrel with my bloody battle axe, I said, 'Pick up your knife.' I tilted my head, and Cyrel was terrified to move. I kicked the knife to her. 'Pick it up, Cyrel.'I chuckle as Cyrel tries to run away but throw my battle axe at her back. Cyrel falls down once the battle axe hits her and she starts to cry, "Please...don't...". I walk to her and grab my axe out of her back as I look at her with my cold eyes, "Don't what? You guys wanted this fight with the monster down by the lake, but I came here instead. You guys called yourselves paladins. What an insult," I finish Cyrel off and put my weapon away. "What a boring fight," I look at the window where I kicked the girl out. I see her body and watch her shoulders move, but they don't. So I go back to camp, all bloody. Shadowheart runs to me, "Evelyn!? Are you okay!?" Shadowheart lifts up my shirt to my stomach and sees nothing. I hug her, "I'm not hurt, Shadowheart. The fake paladins didn't even put up a fight." Shadowheart hugs me back closely, "Sorry, you're bloody, so I thought you got hurt." I rub her back, "It's okay, Shadowheart." Shadowheart looks at me as she tears up, and I look worried, "Shadowheart, what's wrong?"I place my hand on her face softly and Shadowheart holds my hand. 'I thought you got really hurt, Evelyn. Come, let's go wash you up or change your clothes,' I look at Shadowheart softly. 'Shadowheart, I will let you know if I got hurt, I promised you,' I rub her cheek and Shadowheart hugs me again. 'I know... I know, still, you could at least wash up the blood before you came back,' I hug back closely. 'I forgot, I'm sorry, Shadowheart.' Karlach looks at me softly, 'Are you okay, soldier?' I look up at Karlach, 'Yes, I'm fine. The fake Tyr Paladins won't harm you anymore.' Karlach smiles happily, 'Thank you, soldier. I really appreciate it. If I could give you a hug, I would.' I look away from Karlach, 'Please don't.' Karlach smiles, 'Okay, can we be friends at least?' I walk away from Karlach to my chest, and Shadowheart sighs softly, 'Sorry about that, Karlach. She's very nice once she gets comfortable around you.' Karlach smiles, 'Is that right? Well, I can't wait until that day comes. I've never seen a Drow before.' Karlach whispers in Shadowheart's ear, 'Are you two together?' Shadowheart looks at Karlach as her cheeks turn red, 'N-no, we are not dating.' Karlach smiles, 'Oh, I see. I thought you guys were because you lifted up Evelyn's shirt and Evelyn didn't react, so I thought you were love birds... yet.' Shadowheart blushes, 'There's no 'yet.' Me and Evelyn are... are really good friends, that's it.' Karlach smiles happily, 'Oh yeah? Nothing more?' Shadowheart shakes her head, 'Shush you.' Shadowheart giggles, and Karlach chuckles, 'If you guys were dating, you'd be cute together, just saying.' Karlach pokes Shadowheart with her shoulder, and Shadowheart's face turns red. Karlach smiles, 'If your face turns any more red, you'll be a tiefling, Shadowheart.' I walk back to Shadowheart and Karlach. I look at Shadowheart, 'Ready, Shadowheart?' Shadowheart breathes softly as her face returns to normal, then she looks at me, 'Yes, let's go.' Shadowheart holds my hand and we walk to the woods, and I smile softly.
