Just as planned, the Yagamis had their breakfast at Egg City. They had everything from Tamagoyaki to soufflé.
"Saisyu would love it here," Masaomi snorted when he saw Tamagoyaki in the menu. "That guy loves Tamagoyaki."
"Oooh! They have Tamagodon," Aiko grinned. "And oyakodon too."
"I think I'll have the oyakodon," Iori said. "But they also have bacon scrambled eggs..."
"That sounds tasty too," Aiko agreed.
"I think I'll take the oyakodon," Kazuhiro concluded. "What about you, Niisan?"
Masaomi frowned at the menu. "I think I'll have the scrambled eggs instead. And some soufflé? Chocolate or strawberry?"
Iori's mouth watered. "They have strawberry soufflé?"
"Yep," Masaomi grinned. "You want one too?"
The teen siblings quickly nodded.
"Yes!" Aiko grinned, pointing at the picture on the menu. "Looks good!"
"Yeah, I'll have one of that too," Kazuhiro chuckled. "Been some time we had some good soufflé. What about drinks? I think I'll have the caramel macchiato. What about you guys?"
"Maybe I'll try a cappuccino," Masaomi said. "Sounds nice."
"I think I'll take a mocha," Aiko said. "Niisan?"
"Same," Iori added.
Masaomi nodded and called for the waiter to make an order.Kay and Krizalid sat together to watch as Zayn worked on the embroidery project that he started just a few days prior. The two of them were even nibbling on snacks as they interestedly watched their younger brother in action.
"How is he actually so good at it?" Krizalid asked, crunching onto a butter sandwich cracker. "Look at him, he's almost done with it too."
"I know, right?" Kay added, biting onto a piece of beef jerky. "The guy's practically an embroidery machine!"
Zayn chuckled to himself when he remembered what Seirah had done. "This is actually quite easy. I'm surprised that Seirah messed it up when she tried out."
Krizalid burst into laughter. "Mom showed me as soon as I got home with Dad."
"Because it's funny," Kay snorted. "She didn't use a hoop, she didn't even use lining. It was like a handkerchief, what she was doing."
"It was," Zayn agreed. "And she denied it being wrong too."
"I heard that!" Seirah shouted from her room, much to their amusement.
"We know that!" Krizalid called back.
Zayn frowned at the depleting thread connected to the needle and sighed, seeing how he had to string it again. He finished the last stitch and secured it with a knot before fishing the spool from the basket on the coffee table.
"How much more is left?" Kay asked.
Zayn showed him, pointing out that there was only a small petal left of the beautiful purple lily he was making.
"It's for Mom," Zayn smiled, lowering it to pick up the spool again. "After I'm done with this, I'm making one for Isolde."
"Nice," Krizalid grinned.
"Nothing for us?" Kay asked.
Zayn looked at him in surprise. "You actually want one?"
Kay returned his look of surprise. "Well, yeah. Like it would make a cool tapestry."
"Tapestry?" Krizalid snorted. "That's too small to be a tapestry! Maybe we can frame it instead."
"Yeah, that would be good," Kay nodded in agreement. "Make a bigger one, we can hang it up in the living room."
"Make a bigger one and it can become a table cloth," Krizalid added.
"You guys just giving me more projects to do," Zayn shook his head, trying to string his needle. "Maybe you guys should do them instead."
"Nah, I don't think I'll be good with a needle," Krizalid shook his head. "Maybe something else for me..."
"You can try knitting," Zayn suggested. "Or cooking? Baking? Writing, drawing... what else? The list just goes on."
"Eh, I'm lazy," Krizalid shrugged.
"Same," Kay added in agreement.
Zayn just sighed and went on working on his embroidery. He was almost done with it, and he was planning to finish it by today.Masaomi shook his head as Aiko and Iori placed eight books on the counter after saying that they were only going to take only four.
"You said four books," Masaomi scolded.
"Well, yeah, we took four books each," Aiko argued.
"I meant four, two each," Masaomi sighed. "You know what, it's fine. You guys do read."
"We do," Iori agreed. "Sorry we took too many, we couldn't help it."
Masaomi sighed. "It's fine."
Kazuhiro chuckled. "You wanna go down to the SNK's downstairs?"
"Sure," Masaomi nodded, taking the bag of books from the counter before handing it to Iori. "There, bring this."
Iori took it and followed them out of the shop, down four floors of escalators, and arrived at the grocery shop.
"Love what they have done to the place," Iori said, looking at the newly opened grocer in awe. "The shop that used to be here was severely deteriorating."
"I know, right?" Kazuhiro agreed. "The stuff looks better too."
They entered and Masaomi started pulling out sheets of scribbled paper from his pocket. He handed one to Iori and another to Aiko.
"Aiko, you're coming with me, we're picking meat," Masaomi said.
Aiko groaned. "But Niisan's the meat expert!"
"Aiko, we've been over this, Iori always picks the meat with more bones," Masaomi reminded.
"Because how are you gonna pick a bone with us with boneless meat?" Iori piped up, grinning. "Dad, come on. Boneless meat is good, but the meat on a bone is the best part."
"He's right," Kazuhiro supported with a nod.
Masaomi sighed. "Fine. Aiko, pick some bones."
"But it's still me?" Aiko asked in surprise. "I don't really know how to pick the best meat, Dad. I just take whatever that looks nice. You should let Niisan."
Iori looked at his father, pursing his lips in effort to look like what he hoped to be pitiful. It ended up making Masaomi laugh.
"Fine," Masaomi said at last. "You look ridiculous, by the way."
"Well, it's from your face," Iori countered. He turned to his sister and handed his shopping list to her, taking the one that she had instead. "So we're switching partners now?"
Masaomi nodded. "Yes. Aiko, you go with your uncle while Iori, you come with me."
They parted ways, into two groups, and started picking out whatever they needed.
"Ooo! Fries," Iori said when they passed a freezer with frozen ready-to-cook fries. "Should we take some?"
"No, because freshly made fries is better and healthier," Masaomi said, opening the freezer to pull out packs of frozen peas and mixed vegetables. "Also, bring that trolley here, you're holding it too far."
Iori pushed the wheeled basket towards his father and accidentally hit the older man's feet. "Sorry about that..."
"It's fine," Masaomi said, chucking the packs into the trolley before making his way over to the meat freezer. "There, choose something, Expert."
Iori sighed and opened the freezer. "How many packs?"
"Well, three should do for now," Masaomi said. "Take butaniku and yoniku. Make sure it has some fat too."
Iori stared at each packet carefully before handing it to his father, who took a look before placing them in the trolley."
"Less bone, more flesh, and some fat," Iori said, handing him the third pack while closing the freezer. He turned to look at his father, rather questioningly. "How, are they good?"
"Looks good, but I can only tell once it's being cooked," Masaomi said, wheeling the trolley this time.
Iori shrugged and crossed out the meat before following his father over to the poultry section to get chicken. He kinda wished he had gone with Kazuhiro instead since he felt kinda bored going with Masaomi. Then again, they are hanging out. It wasn't often that the father and son got some alone time together.
But he just wished that Masaomi would speak about something other than the grocery list.
