UPON OUR RETURN TO LONDON, THE CITY WAS ENVELOPED in a shroud of darkness. The night sky sparkled with stars, resembling precious diamonds that illuminated the world beneath. It was a mesmerizing spectacle, one that left me in awe. The nocturnal beauty of nature was truly captivating.
After settling down, I ventured outside and found solace on a tree stump. The crescent moon radiated a gentle glow, casting its ethereal light upon everything it touched. Lost in my thoughts, I couldn't help but ponder about Ayla and her newfound life as a Child of the Moon. Would our paths cross again? Would our connection endure?
My mind then wandered to Bella and Edward's honeymoon. Despite Jacob's outburst, I wondered if they were still able to find joy in their time together. His ignorance astounded me. Merely because I was a vampire, he believed he had the right to pass judgment? What a foolish and narrow-minded guy.
As I sat amidst the forest, the rustling leaves and the melodious chirping of birds were the only sounds that graced the air. Suddenly, the tranquility was shattered by the sound of approaching footsteps, courtesy of my heightened senses.
"Hello, flower," I recognised his smooth and velvety voice.
My head turned and I saw him, standing by a tree, wearing his burgundy suit, dark purple waistcoat, and black trousers and shoes. His arms were crossed over his chest and his pet raven Lenore resting on his left shoulder. His gleaming red eyes were watching me and I smiled at him.
"Hello, Shadow Man," I replied.
Ingram chuckled. "How was the wedding? I'm sure Lenore had been keeping you company."
"The wedding was just fine," I said and I took a deep breath in when I accidentally brushed my bitten wrist on my leg, the stinging sensation returning briefly.
Ingram's eyes flickered to my wrist, his gaze sharp and inquisitive. "You seem pensive tonight, Violet. Is there something troubling you?"
I hesitated, my fingers instinctively grazing the scar left by my father's bite. It was more than just a physical reminder; it was a mark of the turmoil that still lingered within me. "It's nothing I can't handle," I said, attempting to deflect.
Ingram stepped closer, his presence a blend of concern and curiosity. "You know you don't have to face everything alone. We're allies, aren't we?"
A sigh escaped my lips. "It's... complicated. My family is complicated."
"Family always is," Ingram replied with a knowing smile. "Care to share more?"
The sincerity in his eyes broke down my resolve. "My father... he's a werewolf. During a fight, he bit me. That's why I have this mark, the Lunaris mark." I held up my wrist, showing the faint crescent scar. "My stepmother Dina was there too. It was a night I'd rather forget, but it's impossible to erase."
Ingram's eyes darkened, a flicker of understanding crossing his face. "I had no idea. That's quite a burden to bear."
"And there's more," I continued, my voice softening. "Ayla, my half-sister... she's recently become a Child of the Moon. A werewolf, like our father. I'm worried about her, about what this means for us."
Ingram nodded slowly, processing the information. "I see. You're concerned that her transformation will drive a wedge between you, or worse, put her in danger."
"Exactly," I replied. "She's strong, but the world she's entering is fraught with peril. And our connection... I fear it might not withstand the strain."
Ingram placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "Family bonds are resilient, Violet. And you're not alone in this. We'll find a way to keep her safe and maintain your connection."
