"do you have work today, baby?" jungkook asked. delilah hummed softly as she tossed frozen berries into the blender.
"no, i took a couple of days off," she replied, her voice strained.jungkook watched her, a knot of worry tightening in his stomach.
"you do know that you don't have to be here, right?" she finally ventured. "you can go home."
jungkook heart sank, his hands shook slightly. "b-but i wanna be here with you." he choked out his words. "technically you don't need to, besides you haven't been to work in a while." delilah toss the cup of yogurt in the trash and walked over to the fridge.
tears welled up in jungkook's eyes, he placed his phone on the counter and approached delilah, gently turning her around to face him. "hit me," jungkook choked out, his voice thick with emotion. "do you want to punch me? do whatever you want to me," he pleaded, his voice cracking. "but baby, please...just talk to me."
a single tear escaped delilah's eye, tracing a glistening path down her cheek. she reached up, her hand trembling slightly, and wiped away another tear that threatened to fall.
"i'm so sorry. i didn't know what came over me to say those things. i was just angry and i lashed out at you." he confessed.
delilah's breath hitched, a sob catching in her throat.
"it's okay, my love. i just want our baby back." she whispered, her voice barely audible.tears streamed down jungkook's face as a cold dread settled in his stomach. he pulled her into a tight embrace, burying his face in her hair.
delilah buried her face in jungkook's chest, seeking warmth and comfort as she clung to him. it had been a while since the miscarriage, and they had shared the news with their closest friends. delilah had also called her mother to break the news.
as she pulled away from the hug, jungkook wrapped his arms around her again, holding her close. he planted a soft kiss on the side of her head, his fingers rubbing soothing circles on her back. delilah melted into his embrace, her hand resting on his bicep as she let out a deep breath.
they went to the living room and sat down on the couch, still holding onto each other something they haven't done in a while.
"i'm a rainbow child," she whispered, her voice trembling.
jungkook's eyes locked onto hers, filled with warmth. "really?" he asked, his voice gentle.delilah nodded, her eyes welling up with tears. "my mother told me... after i told her what happened. she said that before me, she and my father were going to have twins, but they lost them. and when they tried again, they had me."
jungkook's hold on her tightened as he planted a soft kiss on the top of her head. "you're my miracle baby," he rasped. "my only delilah."
delilah managed a weak smile, tears tracing glistening paths down her cheeks. "maybe not right now, my love," she whispered,
"yeah, sweetheart," he agreed gently, brushing a tear away with his thumb. "but in the next few years, i know you'll be my lovely wife, and we'll be building our own family full of mini me and you"
"you wanna marry me?" she gaze into his doe eyes.
"without a doubt, princess," jungkook said, his voice a low rumble. he leaned in, nuzzling his nose against hers. "when you're ready, when we're both ready, i'll ask you properly."
delilah leaned into his touch, her cheeks pressing against his chest.
"you called me hubby before, remember?" jungkook's eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled. "i love that nickname," he said, planting a gentle kiss on her cheek. "i want to hear it more often."
