There was a light.

A light so bright that it was momentarily a stun.

A stun to the body, soul, mind, and heart.

And Y/N's heart began to

Beat
Beat
Beat

Again.

But there were so many voices and flashes and colors.

None of them blended together, none of them looked like they belonged, none of the sounded quite right.

But she could see one thing.

One simple thing that made her want to scream.

Fire.

There was so much of it. It engulfed Y/N and burned her, but she knew it wasn't actually hurting her. But it stung so bad and all she could do was watch it cover her entire body.

And then it went black again.

There was an echo, a voice. One that she knew.

The light behind her eyelids was growing brighter and brighter. It was a different light. A more familiar light that she had known for oh-so long. The ringing of her ears began to fade into the small chirps of birds and the sound of wind filtering through the grass. She could smell the sodden earth and the wildflowers. She could feel them under her, caressing and holding her like she might break.

Her eyes shot open, her lungs gasping for air.

"Woah, little leaf, are you okay?"

She turned her head ever so slightly. And there he sat, tan skin and dark hair cropped just above his brow. His emerald green eyes radiated among the field, suddenly casted downward at her in worry. His scar still remained, drawn from his temple to his neck.

Hatsu.

"Yeah..." she hummed, turning her head once again to look out over the field.

I'm actually conscious this time. I know what's happening, right?

But she tried to move her hand, and nothing happened. She tried to move an arm, and nothing happened. She could feel her heart rate spike, but she couldn't control anything else. She tried to speak again, but no words came out.

This is a memory, then?

I do seem younger. Around nine or maybe even ten. Not as young as I had been in that dream I had when fighting against Lower Moon 1. I feel stronger, as well. More complete.

Y/N watched herself through her own eyes as she relaxed, slumping back onto Hatsu. He grinned down at her, a small dimple forming on his right cheek. The sun was nearly completely set, purple hues beginning to take over the sky. Small stars winked behind whispy clouds, her hair moving slowly and subtly in the little gusts pushing them along.

She knew this scene. She knew it.

And she couldn't help the unsettling feeling of absolute dread.

She was a guest to her own mind. An alien, a foreign visitor. She could watch, but not move. She felt like she was sitting in a shell— a cage, even. She couldn't stop whatever was going to happen next. And that thought scared the hell out of her. She couldn't even remember it. Why was she so scared?

It was serene. And so quiet.

Too quiet.

A shriek, loud and terrifying, rang through the air from behind them.
