After long days of constant training and planning for the next race, the McLaren team concluded their training session. Blake and Lando emerged from the gym, their bodies glistening with sweat. The grueling workout had left them both exhausted.
"Holy shit, that was intense," Blake remarked, wiping the sweat from her brow as she collapsed onto a nearby bench.
Lando chuckled, his breath coming in ragged gasps. "Tell me about it."
"I could use a cold drink." She added as the girl was still breathing quite heavily.
Lando's eyes lit up, remembering somewhere he went just a few days ago. "There's a great cafe not too far from here. They give good milkshakes."
"Cafe it is" Blake agreed, standing up to change before they left.
"Hey where are you going?" Lando queried as he shuffled to stand up, catching up with her.
"To change, obviously. You should too, you stink." The girl joked as she laughed at the offended face lando made.
After freshening up the pair set off toward the city center, their laughter echoing through the streets.
As they wandered through the bustling streets, Blake and Lando couldn't help but be swept up in the vibrant energy of the city. The mingling scents of the restaurant in the city filled the air, blended with the sounds of laughter and chatter that surrounded them.
"I forgot how nice it feels just walking around the city," Lando exclaimed, his eyes sparkling with excitement as he walked around with his best friend beside him.
Blake smiled, her gaze wandering over the colorful storefronts and bustling market stalls. "Yeah, it's relaxing. It takes my mind off stuff." Blake muttered. "It reminds me of when we used to go to new cities together during our junior racing days."
Lando grinned, a playful glint in his eye. "Oh yea! That brings back so much memories." He laughed. "Remember that time we got lost in Rome."
Blake laughed, the memory flooding back to her in vivid detail. "How could I forget? We spent hours trying to find our way back to the hotel, and then you accidentally made a young kid fall and instead of helping her you laughed at her and ran away."
Lando chuckled, shaking his head at the memory. "Hey, in my defense, it was really funny."
Blake rolled her eyes, a playful smirk tugging at the corners of her lips. "Yeah, yeah. Whatever."
Their banter continued as they wandered through the city, their playful teasing and laughter filling the air around them. But as they rounded a corner, Blake's heart skipped a beat when she spotted someone familiar standing on the sidewalk ahead.
"Lando, isn't that...?" she began, her voice trailing off as she gestured toward the figure in the distance.
Lando followed her gaze and his eyes widened in recognition. "Evianna," he said, his voice soft but tinged with a hint of surprise.
As they approached, Evianna turned to greet them with a warm smile. "Lando, it's been ages. How have you been?"
Lando returned her smile, his tone friendly but guarded. "Hey, Evianna. I've been uhm.. good,. Just keeping busy with racing and whatnot." He chuckled nervously.
Blake watched their interaction with a growing sense of unease, her heart fluttering uncomfortably in her chest. She knew that Evianna and Lando had a history, and despite her best efforts to suppress it, her jaw clenched at the sight. The two were exes, however it just didnt work out with Landos busy schedule. They were merely kids and definitely couldn't handle long distances.
But as Lando and Evianna exchanged pleasantries, Blake forced herself to push aside her feelings of insecurity, plastering a polite smile on her face as she waited for their conversation to end.
After a few minutes of small talk, Lando turned to Blake, a questioning look in his eyes. "Hey, Blake, do you mind if I catch up with Evianna for a bit? We won't be long."
Blake's heart sank at the request, but she forced a smile, nodding her head in acquiescence. "Sure, take your time. I'll just wait here."
She didn't know why she felt so.. uncomfortable with the situation. The unsettling feeling in her chest, the way her heart sank, and the bitter feeling that was stirring in her stomach. She excused with the excuse she just wasn't feeling well.
As Lando and Evianna continued their conversation, Blake couldn't shake the feeling of discomfort that settled over her like a heavy blanket. She knew that Lando had every right to catch up with an old friend knowing they didn't end badly, but she couldn't help but continue feeling uneasy.
But as she watched them laugh and chat, a small voice in the back of her mind reminded her that she was nothing but a friend and his teammate. She couldn't be feeling this way. She had no right. She should be happy for her friend.
With a deep breath, Blake forced herself to push aside her feelings of insecurity, focusing instead on the sights and sounds of the bustling city around her.
After what felt like an eternity, Lando finally returned to Blake's side, a sheepish smile playing at his lips. "Sorry about that. I didn't mean to leave you hanging."
Blake waved off his apology with a smile, her heart lightening at the sight of him. "No worries. I'm just glad you got to catch up with her."
Lando grinned, his gaze softening as he looked at her. "Thanks."
As the last rays of sunlight faded into the horizon, Blake tried to convince herself that she was just a friend, that there was nothing more to her feelings for Lando. But every sane person knew that deep down, she knew she was only fooling herself.
