Blake leaned back in her chair with a groan, her muscles protesting with every movement. The post-race adrenaline had worn off, leaving behind a throbbing pain from her leg. She closed her eyes, willing herself to relax, when a gentle tap on her shoulder startled her.
"Hey," Lando's voice was soft and awkward, "George invited us to a party tonight."
Blake nodded without opening her eyes. "Okay." Blake thought about it not sure if she would join yet due to the throbbing pain in her leg. However, she knew she needed to ease off. Everything with Lando stressed her out more than it should. She needed this. She needed a distraction.
"Uh, do you want to ride with me? Do you need a ride?" he offered hesitantly.
She thought for a moment, remembering her car parked just outside. "No, thanks, Lando. I'll drive myself." She spoke softly, her eyes still closed avoiding Landos gaze.
"Alright, then," he said, trying to mask his disappointment in his voice. "See you there."
Blake listened as Lando's footsteps retreated down the hallway. She opened her eyes slowly, letting out a frustrated groan. She hated being awkward with Lando. She had been so close with him from such a young age, they did everything together and she hated that she was so naive. A small part of her knew this was doing no good, but the bigger part was telling her it will all end well for both of them.
Forcing herself up, she headed to the shower, the hot water doing little to soothe her sore muscles but clearing her mind enough to focus on getting ready for the party. She changed into her clothes and fixed her things.
After packing her bag, she texted George: "Can Ollie come along?"
His reply came almost immediately: "Sure! The more, the merrier!"
