The days were ticking by in the Voss household, each one bringing the Chinese Grand Prix closer. The anticipation of the race hung in the air, but so did a growing tension.
Blake and Lando's friendship seemed fine on the surface—at least, that's what Lando thought. Yet, every time Blake caught sight of his sparkling blue eyes, a rush of thoughts and feelings swirled through her mind. She loathed this turmoil but knew she couldn't just avoid him. Ignoring him before had solved nothing, and she vowed not to repeat that mistake. Still, the awkwardness was palpable on her end.
Blake tried her hardest to act normal around Lando, but everything felt heightened. Every gesture, every word, every glance was overanalyzed. This wasn't how she felt around Arthur. With him, things were straightforward. But this? This was different.
Doubts about her relationship with Arthur crept in. Was there something wrong with her? The guilt gnawed at her as she questioned her love for Arthur. Once, she had loved him deeply. Now, those feelings seemed distant. Maybe Arthur was right; maybe she was selfish for trying to hold on to something that wasn't working. There had to be a reason she kept her distance from Lando when she was with Arthur. Now, it all made sense, and the guilt felt heavier.
"Are you okay, Blake? You look like you're trying to solve a math equation or something," Lando joked, sliding onto the couch beside her.
The Karate Kid played on the TV, serving as little more than background noise for Blake's racing thoughts. She rolled her eyes, shifting slightly away from Lando, terrified that even the slightest touch would amplify her already intense feelings for him.
"Yup, I'm okay," she replied, fiddling with her fingers. Moments like this felt incredibly awkward.
She tried to focus on the movie, but her efforts were futile. The sounds from the TV entered one ear and exited the other as her mind ran at full speed. Suddenly, footsteps on the stairs pulled her attention away from the screen. Her brother, Bryson, was heading down with car keys in hand.
