Sylvia's POV
I watched as Xavier's office building slowly came into my sight. I took a deep breath, feeling excitement flutter in my stomach.
Even though Xavier and I had been married for several years now, I rarely ventured into his professional domain.
Today, however, was special. I wanted to surprise him with lunch and spend some time together amidst our hectic schedules.
Stepping out of the car, I adjusted my dress and walked confidently towards the entrance. The glass doors slid open silently, and I was greeted by the sight of a bustling office lobby.
People were working all around me, their expressions focused and intense. I nodded at the receptionist, who smiled warmly, clearly recognizing me from previous visits.
"Good afternoon, Mrs. Alvarez" she said with a nod. "Boss is currently in a meeting, but you're welcome to wait in his office."
I thanked her and made my way towards the elevator, feeling a sense of pride as I observed the well maintained work environment here. Xavier was excellent in his work.
As the elevator ascended, I couldn't help but feel a little thrill of excitement. Despite the darker side of his work, Xavier always managed to create a sense of safety around me and Max, and I loved seeing him all focused and into it.
When the elevator doors opened on Xavier's floor, I stepped out and took a moment to take in my surroundings.
His office suite was as impressive as I remembered, with sleek, modern furnishings and large windows that offered a stunning view of the city skyline.
I walked towards his office but stopped short when I saw a group of people gathered in a meeting room down the hall, deep in discussion.
I decided not to interrupt and instead took a leisurely stroll around the office. As I wandered, I noticed that the employees had brilliant work ethics and coordination.
It was clear that Xavier ran a tight ship. Maybe I should take some advice from him.
Lost in my thoughts, I turned a corner and nearly bumped into a woman who was yelling at someone on the phone.
She was tall, with sharp features and an air of authority that suggested she was someone important. She glanced at me briefly, her expression unreadable, before continuing on her way.
I continued my exploration, admiring the art on the walls and the stylish decor. Just as I was about to head back towards Xavier's office, I heard a voice behind me.
"Excuse me, who are you?"
I turned to see the same woman I had nearly collided with earlier. She was now standing with her arms crossed, her eyes narrowing as she looked me up and down.
There was no trace of politeness in her; instead, her tone was accusatory and confrontational.
"I'm Sylvia," I replied, offering a polite smile, "I'm just waiting for Xavier to finish his meeting."
"And what business do you have here?" she demanded, ignoring my smile, "You don't seem to be working, and this is a place of business, not a social club."
I blinked, taken aback by her rudeness. "I'm here to see my husband," I said, trying to keep my voice calm, "He's in a meeting right now, so I'm just waiting."
"Husband?" she scoffed, her eyes narrowing further, "You must be mistaken. Mr. Alvarez doesn't have a wife. I would know if he did."
I felt a surge of irritation at her dismissive tone. "I assure you, I'm not mistaken," I said firmly, "Xavier and I have been married for several years."
