Sylvia's POV:
"I heard Max moved. Luna told me" Xavier said almost immediately as he entered. "He did" I nodded, a smile on my face.
"That's great news" Xavier said, placing his chin on my shoulder, "I think he'll wake up soon."
"Did you smoke again?" I asked, giving him a disapproving look. Xavier looked at me guiltily, "I'm sorry."
"Do you have some sort of enmity with your insides? First your liver, and now your lungs?" I gave him a stern look.
Xavier gave a tight side hug, "You worry too much darling."
"I worry because I love you" I looked away from him, "But you always do what I tell you not to."
"Sylvia" Xavier sighed, kissing my cheek, "I won't from now on. Okay?"
"You said that last time too" I said.
"I swear mi reina. I wont do it again" he cupped my cheek, looking into my eyes as he said it.
My gaze fell on his hand, and an unplanned gasp escaped my lips, "Xavier!"
I grabbed his hand, analyzing it carefully, "Y-You're hurt. T-The blood it's...it's–"
"It's dried. I know. I got into a fight" he simply shrugged.
"With whom?" I asked.
"I went for work mi reina. My line of work often requires us to fight random enemies who pop up from anywhere" he said, looking down at his knuckles.
"You're lying" I said.
"I'm not" he shook his head.
"Then why aren't you making eye contact as you say it?"
Xavier turned to look at me, his eyes blank as ever, and face void of any emotions, "I'm not lying Sylvia."
He's definitely lying.
Before I could respond to him, Max's heart monitor went up again. Beeping loudly and unrhythmically.
"Shit. I'm gonna call the doctor" Xavier said, rushing out. I went closer to Max, taking his hand in mine.
"Relax my love. Relax. Calm your mind. Shh..." I placed my hand on his chest, rubbing it up and down.
Xavier came back with the doctor, who pushed us both away and started checking him quick.
Subconsciously, I leaned more into Xavier. He wrapped an arm around me and held me extremely close to him.
Max's heartbeat went down again and the doctor sighed in relief. "He's fine" the doctor nodded, looking at Xavier.
"What was that spike in his heart rate?" Xavier asked.
"I think it was a reaction to his surroundings. Did something change in the environment around him? Something new? Something different?"
"Um...no" Xavier said.
"That's weird. Then this shouldn't have happened" the doctor thought out loud.
"Um, we had a small argument just now. But it was nothing big" I informed him.
"I see" the doctor nodded, "I'd suggest that you keep the environment around him happy and stress free as much as you can."
"We will" I nodded determinedly. The doctor then left, leaving me and Xavier alone.
"I know you're lying to me, but I'm going to let it go for Max's sake" I whispered to Xavier, before walking back to Max.
