A Week Later
Maxwell's POV:
"Flynn you don't understand! I have a family! I am a married man! You can't just come up to me and give me this news!" I argued.
"I understand Max. But I don't trust anyone else to do this except for you. They know you. They already trust you" he said.
"Do you even hear yourself? You're sending me to a different country! How am I just supposed to leave??" I threw my hands in the air.
"Maxwell, please. You know damn well that I would go if I could. But I'm needed here as of now" he pleaded.
"I can't. I'm sorry I can't. What will I tell Xavier and Sylvia? This is a stupid request that I cannot fulfill" I declared.
"Max" Fiona stood, her voice soft and calm, opposite to that of Flynn and mine's, "It's a business trip. I'm sure Xavier and Sylvia will understand."
"No. YOU need to understand. This is very sudden and as a man with a family, I can't do this" I said.
"Okay how about we all talk to Xavier and Sylvia? Let's give it a shot please?" Fiona pleaded. Well fuck. I don't like when my sisters plead me.
"Max, it's just 2 days. Please" Flynn said, his eyes desperate as ever. I know how much our business means to him. He'd do anything for it.
"I....fine" I sighed, grabbing my phone and dialing Xavier and Sylvia on a conference call.
"Hello mi amor" Sylvia picked up first.
"Come on darling, you can't already be needing me" Xavier said. His way of greeting is being cocky I guess.
"Hi. I need to ask you two something" I said, my voice serious as ever. Both Sylvia and Xavier's voices sterned up as I said that.
"Yes?" Sylvia probed. I explained the situation to her, kind of scared of how Xavier would react. He's got a hot head in such matters.
"So you need to leave....like, in 3 hours?" Xavier asked, the depth in his voice making me gulp.
"If you say no then I–"
"Hi Xavier. Fiona here. You have a business too, and I'm sure you understand that such trips are part of every business. Please. This is a very big thing for us" she said.
The line went dead silent, my anxiety rising as I waited for an answer. "Xavier? Sylvia?" I called in a whisper.
I heard Sylvia sigh, "I don't mind. Work is important too. I just...this is so sudden."
"Max can have a week off after this business deal. He will probably deserve it too once he finalizes it with the customers" Flynn jumped in.
I don't like my elder siblings as of now.
"You better stay upright on your words Flynn. Or I won't give a shit who you are" Xavier's voice boomed.
"Xavier!" I hardened my voice, "Stop threatening my brother."
"His demand is ridiculous. The least he can do is give you a week off. Don't think that I haven't noticed how stressed you've been every night."
Him and his stupid observatory eyes.
"You have my word, Xavier. After these 2 days, Max is completely yours for the entire week" Flynn said.
That sounded way too wrong to my dirty mind.
No. No. Come back to the present Max. Come back!
"Alright. Call me before your flight leaves. And give me a call after landing too, okay?" Sylvia said.
"Of course mi leona" I said, an automatic smile forming on my face.
"Te amo (I love you) Maxwell. Take care of yourself" Xavier added.
"Yo tambien te amo Xavier" (I love you too Xavier) I replied, cutting the call.
"See, they agreed" Fiona said, a wide smile on her face.
"I'll ask Luna to pack some clothes for you real quick. Until then, you can meet the clients. You'll be heading to Russia with them" Flynn said.
"Wait. If the clients are already here, then why can't we just do the deal?" I asked.
"Well that's the problem Max. The client is not here, his secretary, a.k.a. his sister is. The main client is still in Russia" Fiona said.
Oh okay, I guess.
"I'll send her in. Give a good impression, yes?" Flynn said. But then before I could answer, he answered it himself, "What am I saying? Of course you'll give a good impression. You're the best after all."
Maybe I like him just a little now.
Flynn and Fiona left, and I put on my suit jacket and took my seat on the chair. The door opened a few minutes later and lady walked in.
Tall, fit, straight brown hair till her waist, black eyes, blue jeans and a spaghetti strap white shirt with a deep V-neck.
"Hello Mr. Blackwood. It's great to meet" she offered me a smile, forwarding her hand for a shake.
She was trying to come off as confident. And while I do agree that succeeded in that, no one even comes close to how confident my Sylvia is.
So with that though in mind, I took her hand, "It's Alvarez actually. Maxwell Blackwood Alvarez."
"Oh. You don't go by your family name?" she asked, taking the seat opposite to me.
"Alvarez is, my family name. I am married so I prefer to go by that name" I informed her. "That's cute" she said.
"So um....your company is based in Russia?" I asked.
"Yes. My brother owns it and I'm his helper. I don't understand much of the business world, so I asked him to just keep me as a side person" she said.
"Alright" I nodded, "We'll be going in your private jet. Is that correct?"
"Yes. You'll have the most comfiest ride ever. I can assure you that" she said, smiling wide. Well okay.
"I'm sorry, but I didn't catch your name. My brother didn't tell me" I said.
"Oh that's okay. Let me introduce myself. Hi, I'm Elena Caldas, and I'm very excited to be working with you, Mr. Alvarez."
-----------
There it is. The angst all of you had been asking of me. Or at least, it will be coming soon.
Next chapter will be Xavier using his safeword. So stick around.
