How many times was her heart going to break tonight? Stella laid back down, taking in the information without any reservations. Instead, questions ran through her mind.

How could she bear to split these two up?

How could she live with herself if this happened?

She didn't want that responsibility. And there was another question weighing heavy on her mind that she knew Eden would give her an honest answer to.

"Ominis said that the blood magic he performed so that we could talk came with a price. If I die, then so does he."

Eden nodded, 'Just like when snakes agree to be a companion, they live for as long as their human does. Your life is also tied to mine indirectly that way. If you die, I die.'

"Why did you both agree to such a thing? You barely knew me. Even now..."

That made Eden's black eyes appear to soften. 'Foolish human. I told you that time is relative. I won't speak for my human, but I knew from the moment I saw you that you were different. And when I saw my human look at you for the first time too, I knew that fate would bring you both together. And it did.'

Her words validated her resolve and she held out her wrist to Eden. "Then that settles it. I want you to take my blood like you took Solomon's at A'morte. Take my blood and when the time comes, we'll break the bond."

Eden's tongue flickered out. 'That would be the pragmatic thing to do, but Stella... Blood magic is inherently dangerous. Nothing comes without a price.'

Her words echoed Ominis'. She swallowed hard, fear evident in her voice.

"If the situation is that desperate, then I'll pay it. I'll take responsibility."

Chapter 68: Empty Inside

OMINIS' POV

Ominis flipped through the journals, finding each killing darker than the previous one. But it was all there. What Sebastian had hidden and what he'd likely been waiting until the right moment to reveal-was that Solomon had in fact been a Serial Killer longer than anyone could have suspected.

The Auror didn't even know that Solomon was married. Sebastian never mentioned it nor Anne and he didn't care enough to ask. And to think that Sebastian could keep his composure while Anne stayed with a murderer. A savage that only preyed upon women for their reproductive organs to give his reluctant wife. Why hadn't she notified the Ministry?

Was it because she knew the twins would be split up by the wizarding foster system? Or did Solomon know that Sebastian was aware of things and kept Anne as a collateral?

Could Ominis turn what happened that night into it being Solomon's fault to release him? Of course, his brain told him that Sebastian was guilty of using the relic of his own accord-but it'd been eight years since that night. He'd been a child.

Sebastian learned his lesson... Maybe he deserved to be free again.

They could... They could work things out...

And Ominis... He could stop the prophecy from coming true, right?

He ran a frustrated hand, shutting the final book shut. It wasn't as if he'd been able to focus anyway. The alcohol had cleared out of his system after the shower and he was plagued by the memories of what had happened in the hidden herbology corridor. Not of the sex although he wholeheartedly wanted to recreate that with Stella in more precarious positions.
