Knowing that she wasn't feeling well, he pulled her into his lap, but didn't deepen the kiss. Ominis didn't pull away either, returning her affection in a slow, lazy way that savored the feel of her lips against his. He could taste the orange she'd had earlier and relaxed as her hands cupped his face while his settled on her hips. He rubbed slow circles, hoping that the massage would sooth her aching muscles.

Stella pulled away to catch her breath, but there was a question in her eyes. This time, he didn't have anything to stop the words from escaping. They fell from his lips as he bared his soul to her. "I love you too, princess."

His heartbeat was racing and he wondered if hers was too. If Perseus could defeat one of the most fearsome creatures of all time and save his beloved from a sea monster, then Ominis could save Stella from Solomon. Even when the prophecy was bound to come true, he'd make sure that she got away safely and no harm would come to her.

Even if Perseus and Andromeda fell madly in love and risked their lives for each other, Ominis was certain he'd never put her in a situation like that. Love and sacrifice tended to go hand in hand. This beautiful woman that was filled with so much love; he'd be the sacrifice.

He'd be her weapon when they'd eventually face off against Solomon. Ominis was sure he had spies everywhere and the bastard likely knew they'd found what he was searching for. The journals. The evidence of his crimes.

Now it was a matter of time.

How long before the murderous madman became desperate enough to attack one of the best Aurors in generations?

How long before the murderous madman went after the woman he loved more than life itself?

Ominis was tempted to relight the candles to make another wish.

Don't take the woman I love away from me.

Chapter 70: The Calm Before the Storm

Stella felt giddy hours later.

That was the only word she could use to describe her feelings if she was ignoring the vague agony of her body every time she had to get up. He loved her. He admitted he loved her and he'd kissed her like she was the most precious thing on Earth to him.

Her heart was soaring and she never wanted to come down from the clouds. It'd been humiliating to talk about her period of all things over his breakfast and while he was eating; but he was so unbothered about it. Ominis was more upset that she'd found it embarrassing to talk about it with him than the actual subject.

Those words she'd been keeping close to her chest couldn't be contained anymore. So she told him and she was glad that she didn't regret it. He'd gotten dressed for work while she laid in bed with a pillow over her stomach he'd charmed to use like a heating pad. Apparently he'd been in contact with that doctor more than she'd realized and he'd been asking how to make her comfortable with her condition.

He'd bent over, kissed her on the forehead, and said he'd be back before dinner time. If her period came today and sooner, to have Tobbs run to the store, but he'd try to have whatever case Singer assigned him wrapped up early.

Ominis had left, sending her a wink and a smile before he Apparated.

If she'd naturally been from this time frame, the i-love-yous had been exchanged. It could be the start of a relationship that they'd nurture for the rest of their lives. Marriage... A lump in her throat formed about the likely difficult challenge it would be to have biological kids... but this could have all been the natural progression of a relationship. Instead, she was firmly trying not to think about how much it would hurt when she left.
