He swam back down, but Scarlyn stayed floating at the top. It was like the dolphins had led them into a trap. But why?
He saw a light coming from the coral. Is that what the dolphins wanted us to see?
As he swam closer to the coral, the light around the coral began to dim.
The only light coming from the coral was in the center. As he reached for it, he was blown back with a hard wave.
He felt like someone had punched him in the gut.
"Scarvern! Scarvern!" Scarlyn cried.
He tried to move, but it was like the waves had frozen him in place. But one thing was for sure. He was breathing underwater.
"From the ocean current, there shall be the one to learn. He shall find the one of Auburn, she shall place a pattern, he shall spurn the waves."
He could move now. He wasn't frozen in place. He swam up to the surface and Scarlyn was scared half to death.
"I'm okay," he faltered. The sky was pitch black, and the tide was aggressive.
"You were down there forever!" she had been crying. "Thank the waves, you're okay!"
Scarvern smirked. "When you're me, you're always immune. We should swim back to the shore," his heart sank when he realized the shore was too far.
"What?" she asked as the waves bobbed her up in the water.
"It's too dark to get back," he swallowed back a cry of fear.
"This was your idea," she sneered. "How are we supposed to get back?"
He shrugged as he felt a cold shiver run down his spine. There was a shadow in the distance.
"Please tell me that isn't a shark coming," she anxiously combed down her drenched blond hair.
"It's too big to be a shark," he swam a few inches away. The silhouette had a flag hung on it, with a big wave on the side.
"It's a ship!" He shouted. "Scarlyn! It's a ship! Hurry!"
He felt Scarlyn grab his arm from behind him.
"Time to shout at the top of our Lungs," Scarlyn took a deep breath. "Over here!"
The ship must have heard her because it changed its track and began coming towards them.
"Over here!" he called as loud as he possibly could.
The ship got about three feet away from them and the captain began calling.
"Arrrrrrrgh." the captain grumbled. His dark brown hair was matted, and his face was covered in plenty of scars. Scarvern would have thought he was half dead if it weren't for his deep brown eyes. "We need some helpin' over here,"
"Over here!" He called again. He swam to what looked like the ship's ladder and began climbing. Scarlyn followed.
The ship's deck was covered in golden swords and pirates. One of them caught eye of the two.
"All hands on deck!" he screamed. Scarvern froze in place as a hoard of pirates swarmed them and put knives to their throats.
"You wouldn't er... min' telling' us why you' on our ship?" One with scraggly gray hair asked. "We'll like to retain you,"
"RAAAAAAAA!!" About fifteen pirates ran for the two and knocked them out.
Scarvern dreamed of a girl. Usually these dreams didn't phase him much, but something about her felt off.
This was definitely somewhere he didn't recognize. It looked... unbearable.
The girl turned her head to look at him. Her eyes were like winter and her hair reminded him of the stormy sky, and it had been windswept. She blended in with the dark forest.
"What do you want, boy?" she sneered as she raised an eyebrow. "Didn't think anyone would be here at this time of night,"
He shrugged. "Everyday's full of surprises,"
She eyed him suspiciously. "Mhm," she tied something around her waist and plummeted towards a blaring fire.
"Wait! I never got your name!"
"It's Re-."
He woke up with a start.
