Our home-room teacher is Mr. Cyprus, a science teacher. Unfortunately, I don't have him this year for science, which was a shame because he is the coolest teacher in school. He's so laid-back and chill, for someone in their late 40's.

"Alright home-roomer's, since we have a new group, we have new people. So first let's go round and introduce ourselves and tell us something unique about you. I'll start. Hey guys, I'm Stan Cyprus, but you guys can call me Mr C, and I like to blow stuff up. Next." Mr C was really enthusiastic which is a change from all the depressing, uptight teachers around here.

A few students later it was Trish's turn. "Hi, I'm Trish de la Rosa, and I have an obsession...with shopping!" She beamed confidently. "And my phone." She quickly added in before I could have my turn, not like I was eager to go or anything. Trish got a few mocking laughs from other students but Trish doesn't care, she's more worried about her looks than other people, the total opposite to me.

Why was everyone staring at me?

I felt a nudge on my arm and Trish whispering "Ally. Say something."

Oh pickles, it's my turn to speak. Why was I nervous? My palms were sweating and I had an urge to chew on my hair, which is a habit of mine when I get anxious. Come on Ally, just get it over and done with... "Hi, I'm Ally Dawson and I like to write songs." I said quickly, relived it's now over. Okay, maybe that was a bit too 'over and done with' but I have a good excuse, I have stage fright, and if anyone wants me to perform or speak in front of a crowd then I just freeze.

After about 10 more students, it was Austin's turn. "Sup, I'm Austin Moon and I love music...and girls." He said and then he looked at me and winked. Um, What the heck? I haven't even spoken to him and hardly know him and he's flirting with me? I shifted uncomfortably in my seat and looked away.

When home-room finished, the first class was math. Great, Austin was in the same class as me. Again. The seats were individual desks but in 4 rows. Everyone got told to wait by the door while Miss Roe put us in a seating plan. "Name?" She asked me.

"Ally Dawson." I replied and she pointed to my designated seat.

"Ah, Ally Dawson. I've heard positive things about you. Don't let me down." Miss Roe said, leading me to wander if she was being nice but saying it in a mean voice or generally warning me. I opened my mouth to speak but decided to take my seat instead. On the bright side, Trish got seated two rows in front of me.

"Name?" I heard Miss Roe say again.

"Austin Moon." I heard Austin say. I didn't bother looking at where he was sat. Then someone pulled out the chair next to mine. I turned to my left and saw Austin sitting down, with his feet on the desk.

He smirked at me. It made my heart smack against the inside of my body. "Sup? I'm Austin. You're Sally?" He asked me. I raised my eyebrows at his cockiness.

"It's Ally." I said and looked down at my reading book. I was reading Wuthering Heights.

"My bad, so I know what you're thinking, 'Austin Moon is totes hot!' I get that a lot, but I'm not looking for a girlfriend at the moment. I just broke up with this really clingy senior, she begged me to take her back, but I said no way!" He blabbed on. I tried to tune him out.

"Oh, sorry, were you talking to me?" I asked sarcastially. He just rolled his eyes and looked away. Thank the Lord he's finished! I thought he was going to talk to me throughout the whole lesson.

Math class dragged on. I normally love the subject, but I can't concentrate when a big-headed blondie who can't stop complimenting himself every time he gets a question right. I really need to get into AP Math next semester so I can escape HIM!

Another lesson passed, luckily it was English and I didn't have it with Austin 'annoying' Moon, Austin 'let's kick him to the' Moon, Austin- yeah you get it. Soon enough it was third period which, for Trish and I, was a free period.

We sat on the field, the same spot we'd sat in before home-room. I was reading Black Beauty and Trish was on her phone. Two boys walked past. I looked up to see who it was but the sun was blinding me. "-cough- Nerd! -cough-" I heard Austin mock as he and Dez stopped in their tracks, towering over us.

"Were you talking to me again? Sorry, I don't speak moron." I laughed and looked at Trish. She smiled at me. Austin didn't look amused, which I found funny.

"Good one, where did you hear that one? Chess club?" Austin asked sarcastically.

"Wow, I'm surprised you know what chess is!" I smiled sweetly, even though the urge to stand up and smack him in the face were coursing through my veins.

"Pshh, let's go Dez, before she pokes her tongue out at us and REALLY hurts our feelings." He laughed. Dez laughed too but after Austin started walking, Dez bent down to me.

"Chapter 15 will make you tear up." He smiled at me and then walked towards Austin. Why was someone as nice as Dez friends with that idiot Austin?
