As they approached their lockers, Mike noticed Eira's distant expression. "Hey, everything okay? You seem a bit....off", he said, concern etched on his face. Eira forced a smile, hesitant to reveal her secrets. "Just a little tired, that's all", she replied, trying to brush it off.
But Mike's eyes lingered, as if sensing there was more to the story. Little did he know, Eira's ordinary life was about to take an extraordinary turn. Eira brushed him off, saying she is alright and they both went into their first class together.
During the class, she was so distracted by her thoughts that she did not hear when the teacher called her name until he came and stood in front of her desk. "Everything alright Miss Storm?" He asked her, she told him she is okay and apologized for spacing out. She could feel Mike's stare and gave him a little smile mouthing the words "I am fine".
After the class, they went their separate ways and met up in the cafeteria for lunch. Mike noticed that Eira was just picking through her food and he said "that's it Eira, you tell me what is going on or I am going to get up and leave this instant. I know something's not right with you. Eira, you know you can tell me anything. I am you best friend for a reason".
So Eira looked up at him with tears glistening in her eyes and started to narrate the previous day events. Her voice trembled as she recounted her strange dream, the fire, and the lingering sensations in her fingers. Mike listened intently, his expression a mix of concern and fascination.
As she spoke, the cafeteria noise faded into the background, and it was as if they were in their own little bubble. When she finished, Mike exhaled slowly, his eyes locked onto hers. "Wow, Eira..... that's some wild stuff. But I believe you, and fast. This isn't just about some crazy dream, it's like..... your body is changing or something".
Eira nodded, tears streaming down her face. "I know, Mike. I feel it too. Like there's this power inside me, waiting to be unleashed".
Mike's grip on her hand tightened. "We will face this together, Eira. Always". And in that moment, Eira knew she could trust Mike with her life.....and her secrets.
