As she turned to face him, she saw that he was struggling to get to his feet, his body battered and bruised from there earlier exchange. But what caught her attention was the fear in his eyes as he gazed at her, his gaze fixed on the flames that danced across her body.
"Eira, stop..... please", he croaked, his voice barely audible. "You're.... you're not yourself. The fire.... it's consuming you".
But Eira felt no pain, no discomfort
Instead, she felt a strange sense of power and control, as if the flames were an extension of her own magic. She raised her hand, and the fire danced higher casting flickering shadows across the chamber.
"I'm not afraid of the fire", she said, her voice low and husky. "I'm the fire. And I will not be defeated". With that, she took a step forward, the flames roaring higher, and her brother cowered back, his eyes wide with terror. And she struck him so fast with the fire that he was not able to defend himself.
After the fire went down, instead of her to see his charred body, she was met with a slightly burnt body and she heard him say "I will be back, Eira" before he vanished into thin air. Eira stood there, panting, her flames dissipating as she gazed at the spot where her former brother had vanished.
She could not believe what had just happened. The fire had obeyed her command, and yet, it hadn't consumed her. And her brother.....he had escaped, despite being struck by the flames. The chamber was silent once more, except for the faint echo of her brother's words: "I will be back". Eira shivered, feeling a chill run down her spine. She knew she hadn't seen the last of him, and their battle was far from over.
As she stood there, trying to process what had just happened, she heard a faint whisper in her ear: "Well done, Eira. You are learning to control your power. But the real test is yet to come".
Eira spun around, but there was no one there. The voice seemed to come from all around her, echoing off the walls. She knew then that she was not alone in this mysterious place, and that there were forces at work that she couldn't even begin to understand.
