Bailey waited as if something would suddenly jump out at him while he sat on his bed and looked at his closet door. nervously biting his fingernails while the night's events went backwards and forwards like a scene from a movie.
A small increase in heart rate was seen when he heard something window. He let out a deep breath and turned to face the window, creeping closer to it with the knife—which he now realised was a pretty good weapon. A voice in his head ordered him to run, but another told him to investigate.
Letting go of a free hand, he tentatively reached for the drapes, then yanked them open and lifted the knife higher.
No monster was visible outside the glass. It was just Chrissy Cunningham, and she had a worried expression on her face. He let out a long sigh and lowered the knife to his side. He pulled his window open. "What are you doing here, Chrissy?" He invited her in with a question.
"I was worried since I haven't seen you. Where you going to hurt me?" He became frightened when she inquired. Although he would never hurt her in any manner, his worry had increased after tonight.
"No chissy I would never." He said, taking a seat back on his bed.
Chrissy followed Bailey to his bed and took a seat next to her, but maintaining a safe distance between them. "I had to share some exciting news with you. I received a date request from Jason Carver." She said, virtually giddy with anticipation at the prospect of being able to go on a date. Someone that her parents would have approved of.
Bailey glanced at her, a twinge of regret in her eyes along with a surge of exhilaration. "That's amazing, Chrissy."
"Perhaps we could go on two dates; we could choose someone for you." She remarked, getting off the bed, but she could tell he wasn't as excited as she was." Bailey are you alright?"
"Chrissy, I'm fine." The girl with strawberry hair gave him a worried look as she sat back down on the bed, but he continued to look down at his lap.
"You can tell me, and I swear I won't pass judgement." She spoke softly so as not to aggravate him further.
"I'm not interested in going on a double date with you." Without turning to face her, he spoke. With relief, she sighed.
"That's alright, but it's not the true reason you're upset." With a leisurely motion, she reached across and took his hand. He slowly intertwined their fingers as he raised his gaze to her.
"I-I'm...I'm gay, and it scares me..I'm so terrified of what will happen if I keep feeling this way." Gazing at Chrissy, Bailey saw that she was fixated on him. "I-I shouldn't have said anything, and you probably won't want to be my f-."
He halted, not sure how to respond or what to do, as soon as the girl pulled him into a hug. "I know, I know. Bailey. Whatever or whoever you prefer, you're still the Bailey that I got to know and love. It is important that you always remain true to who you are." The boy wrapped his arms tightly about her and started to cry at last. He felt safe with her.
"You have a lot of courage to tell me that. I'm grateful." Wiping her own tears from her face, she spoke.
He retreated from her, at last experiencing a sense of liberation from everything entangling him. "thank you, Chrissy." She simply grinned broadly and began to chuckle, as did he.
The two young people believed that it was only them, the concerns of the world were far away. Bailey experiencing a brief moment of bliss at last, and Chrissy discovering that there was people out there like her.
