Aaron had just finished showing a house to potential buyers. It was the house of Crystal and Nate, the first couple who fell victim to their unsub's brutal hands. He was there to try and find anything that could help them with the victimology, as for now they couldn't find anything connected the victims, and they didn't know how their unsub was finding them.
Aaron had hoped he could profile the house and see if there was anything the police had missed, since Garcia didn't find anything that connected Mike to the victims' houses. But unfortunately, he found nothing. In his mind, he was already planning on telling his team to interrogate the families and check out the workplaces again.
He was on his way to his car when he was called out by an angry feminine voice. "How dare you!" She yelled. Aaron spun around to see her marching towards him. She looked to be around 17 he didn't know her but she seemed to know who he was. "Do you even know who lived here?" She questioned angrily. Aaron could see she was holding back tears. When she was close enough, Aaron could see she looked familiar— it didn't take him long to notice the similarities between her and her sister.
The brown eyes and hair, the dimples he saw occasionally while she yelled at him they were all identical to the woman in the photos they kept at home between their files— she was Crystal's sister, but he couldn't state that, so he faked obliviousness. "Did you know the old owners?"
The teenager scoffed. "Know them? Crystal was my sister! And you're trying to sell her house. How cruel and insensitive can you be? Is money all that matters to you?" She spat, tears flooding her eyes. She was trying hard not to break, and Aaron felt his heart growing heavy.
For Aaron, reactions to meeting the victims' families generally fell into two categories: leaving them shaken up or filled with gratitude. It was no secret that sometimes it was easier to block away their feelings while they worked, but meeting with the families made them remember that the victims were not just statistics not just pieces in a puzzle they were trying to solve- they were human beings who had a life and loved ones, just like them.
Meeting Crystal's sister now posed the same reminder Aaron needed. He and Emily had been in this operation for a while, and the fact that they were finding their stay pleasant didn't awaken the urgency within them.
"I'm sorry for your loss" Aaron said genuinely. His comment seemed to upset her even more, as she thought he was insincere. She pursed her lips and slapped him across the face.
She covered her mouth with her hands in shock immediately, gauging his reaction. "I'm so sorry, sir" she whispered, sounding surprised by her own actions. She let out a small sob and cried.
Aaron grew concerned at the sight as she started losing her breathing and clutched her heart, crying even louder. "It's okay, it's okay" Aaron said softly and rested his hand on her arm, understanding she was having a panic attack. She backed away awkwardly, and Aaron reached to steady her, both his hands now resting comfortingly on her shoulders. She grasped his forearms, looking short of breath.
