Not sure what kind of warning I should put on this one but it can be sensitive and might be hard to read for certain people so keep that in mind!<3

His body tensed as he gazed from Emily to the door, his ears straining to catch any change in the volume of the noise he was hearing. Emily looked at him with concern, having not heard what he did, but her body reacted in the same way still; she stood on her tiptoes, the only sound coming was from the chains shifting uncomfortably as she moved from side to side.
The sound he heard, which seemed to go unnoticed by Emily, diminished, as if he were approaching the door but had decided to change direction at the last moment. Aaron turned to look at her face again when he heard a distant door open, and she seemed to understand why he had looked so alert before. There were many things he wanted to tell her, but he knew it wasn't the right time; Frederic was coming for them too.
"He's coming. Remember, he doesn't see you as Emily, he doesn't see you as Emma. To him, you're Isabelle" he said, looking at her with intense, dark eyes. "But that doesn't mean you're safe. Reminding him of who you really are might not help, so don't try it." He continued.
"Aaron..."
"Don't antagonize him" he interrupted. "Don't be judgmental, validate his feelings... acknowledge his pain." Every warning came out of his mouth as rapidly as his breaths, and he didn't even blink. His steady gaze and sealed expression only made her feel more frightened.
"You want me to feed into his fantasies?" she whispered in horror.
"No, I'm begging you not to put yourself at risk" he corrected her. "He wants to rewrite his personal narrative and control it. I'm already a threat to that. Don't make him feel like you are too." No matter how he viewed the situation, he understood that despite Frederic clearly seeing Emily as different from the other women he had harmed, he could still hurt her. He didn't want her to die because she insulted him.
"I don't understand" she said angrily. "You're basically telling me to play along" she complained desperately. She knew Aaron had spoken with Rachel and Adam; he knew more about Frederic than she did. Right now, she felt she was missing critical details because she hadn't been there to learn additional information or get properly debriefed. He barely let her respond; he just spat out information she was too confused to process. She hated feeling this way: helpless, unaware, and desperate.
"I just want you to be safe. I wish I could share everything Adam and Rachel told me, but we don't have time" he said. Now, the sound of keys jamming was louder than ever, and even Emily could hear it. She looked away from Aaron and at the door, the noise continuing as someone behind it searched through the collection of keys for the right one.
They heard the sound of the latch being undone and saw the lever-shaped handle turn down. The door creaked as it swung open slowly, revealing Frederic's figure through the gap he created, a smile plastered on his face as he locked the door behind him.
