A pair of big, calloused hands grip Impulse's arm. Pulling him out if the room.
Skizz didn't look back at him as he lead him down the stairs and through the front door.
It wasn't until Skizz sat down on the stairs of the porch did he look at him.
"Sit.." Skizz said, patting the wooden boarding next to him. And Impulse sat.
"...whats up?"
Impulse didn't answer. The silence wafting through the dusk air. The sun had just set and world was becoming lit up by street lights along the roads.
He let out a sigh and looked away from him, looking at the newly dark blue sky. The cold air made his breath condence, then disappear off into the wind.
"...I don't want them to be hurt...like he was..."
"Buddy, they know what they are doing"
"How do they know the Ghost will be nice?"
"Its not about the Ghost being nice..."
Impulse looked away from the sky and to his lap.
"It was my fault, I don't want that to be the case again.."
An arm slung over his shoulder, pulling him into a side hug.
"It won't be, if anything it would be my fault"
This confused him, and so, he gave a questioning glance to Skizz. Finally looking up to meet the mans eyes.
Skizz noticed how he was looking at him and continued, "Im the one who is telling you to help them. If they do get hurt, which they won't, I told you that you shouldn't worry."
"...I wouldn't blame you..."
They sat in silence for a while after that. Impulse wasn't quite sure what Skizz was thinking about, but the silence wss comfortable.
Impulse was thinking about Skizz's comments. Sure, in technical terms, it wouldn't be his fault. For Joker, it was that Deogen's fault, he couldn't have predicted that it would do that. A ghost, to his knowlage, has never been able to kill before. So logically it wasn't his fault in the first place. But then he fell asleep while he was supposed to be looking after him.
Blame is a funny thing. No matter how hard we try, blame is out of our control. But it is also controllable. Thats what is weird. If I told you that a couple divorced beacuse the Husband abused the Mother, the son and the daughter. You would probably think the reason for the divorce is the Father.
But if I told you that the Mother would often spend all of his money, go on random flings with men she meets at bars and neglects her children and that was the reason for his anger. You would say the Mother would also be the reason for divorce.
If I then told you that before the birth of their youngest they were a happy family. Maybe you would belive he is the reason, but it would be morally wrong, blaming a child.
If I painted this picture from the view of the daughter. She would blame both her parents. They had screwed up her and her brothers life with their stupid mistakes.
But this is not the case for Impulse. He has self-blame. Its harder for him to shift that onto another person because that is just how the human brain works. We perceive the most negative side of ourselves. Making is prone so self-blame.
(chat im getting too deep :p)
"...impluse? Impulse!? IMPULSE?!"
"AHH!!"
"You zoned out there, Dipple dop"
"Sorry..."
"All good, I am gonna go see whats happening with those two. Do you wanna come with?"
"No, I'll sit in the van"
"Ok Bud, I will tell them we should he going then."
And Skizz dissapered into the house.
Impulse immediately got up and walked to the front seat of the van. He was distracted. He didn't have any more reasons to not help them, he just didn't know how to.
He managed to keep himself focused of the road of the way back but once they were safe and sound back in the base, he couldn't keep his mind from wondering.
