Percy's POV
My hand waves away the smoke as I cough up what I inhaled. I squint my eyes through the mist as I try to see past the smoke, nothing. My eyes do catch onto something a bit further up from where i'm standing, I urge myself closer. As the smoke begins to clear my eyes adjust to see a figure struggle to stand up, my instincts rush my body forward without thinking as I help the person up. It wasn't until the fog has nearly vanished that I realised who I had helped up. He struggled to keep his balance but I could tell it was him, Nico. My mind becomes foggy, even though the fog around us has disappeared and confirms what my eyes told me.He had turned around once he gained his balance to thank whoever had helped him up, only to be surprised on who it was. I took a couple slow steps back as we made eye contact, not wanting to start anything in the middle of camp. His face twisted with a mixture of fear and frustration as his eyes stared through mine. I try to look past his eyes, to see if there is any sign of deeper feelings only to be brought to the ground with a sting burning my cheek. My hand goes up to touch it as my eyebrows flinch with the touch, I look up. Nico stares down at me with a clenched fist.
I run into his hip, a move I learnt from playing rugby with Chris, causing him to stagger backwards as we clash into a sign. He lets out a grunt and claws my back, trying to grasp himself free. Nico punches me in the side, causing me to loosen my grip and double over in pain. I scatter away before he grips my head and slams it into his knee. My head throbs as the ringing in my ear distracts me from the crowd starting to gather around us. I stagger to a nearby tree as my vision becomes delayed and blurry, Nico is right behind me. He kicks my back into the tree and grabs the back of my neck, hauling me toward the fountain. My feet fight to stay on the ground as he drags me toward the marble structure. Nico yanks my head down into the freezing cold water which fills my lungs as I squirm under his grip. The water around me swirls in different patterns and shapes as air fills my lungs, but my head doesn't resurface. I finally break free from his grasp and launch out of the water, coughing up water from my throat and face Nico.
"Are you stupid?" I spit out, "You really thought you could drown the son of Poseidon?" I reach for his neck before he could react to his stupidity and bash his head against the marble rim of the fountain. Blood splatters on the pristine white marble but I don't stop there. I squeeze my hands, choking him as I give him a taste of his own medicine. I hold Nicos head under the water as he frantically swats my hands away, his heads a blur from the bubbles leaving his mouth. His hands claw into my wrists, forming moon shaped indents with spots of crimson as he fights for his life. It all happens so fast, his diluted screams, the bubbles slowly clearing, bringing his face into view. The desperation in his eyes was inhumane as he struggled to draw in air under the water. His hands digger deeper in my wrist as one last act of survival until... the muffled screams stop, the pain in my wrist stops, everything stops.
