Chapter 16

"Miss (Name), you are to attend the semi-annual Hashira meeting in Ubuyashiki's manor. The boy who carries a demon with him, will be held trial." Ryu informed you of the meeting.

"Oh.. that boy has gotten caught, I am surprised he isn't dead yet, considering he was carrying a demon." You absentmindedly poked at Ryu, who returned the same action to your hand, causing you to chuckle a bit.

You arrived at the mansion and walked towards the garden, you curiously got closer to see Tanjiro unconscious. The others greeted you upon seeing your arrival, to which you returned with your own greetings. You stood beside Muichiro and looked at Tanjiro on the ground, who was tied up. He looked pretty beaten up.

"Shinobu nee-san, that boy is full of injuries, I wonder if it's okay to leave him like that?" The Serpent Hashira interrupted you, scoffing and glaring menacingly at the red-haired boy. "Hmph, that kid has broken the corps rules, who cares what happens to him." You decided not to say anything further than that.

Tanjiro gained consciousness not soon after. "W–who are these people—" He looked around in confusion, but he was slammed down by one of the Kakushi who was yelling at him to read the room. His eyes then went on your figure and flashed with recognition. "(Name)!" You flinched, feeling all of their eyes on you.

"Explain yourself, Tokito." The Serpent Hashira demanded. "Er, I was the one that reported this matter to the Master...he told me to leave the matter to him." You fidget under their gaze, not daring to meet anyone's eyes.

"There's no need for a trail! Being a demon along is a clear violation of the rules. We will behead him along with his sister!" The Flame Hashira, Rengoku Kyojuro spoke up, his voice matching his enthusiasm.

"In that case, I will make sure to decapitate him flamboyantly. I will show you the most flamboyant blood spray you have ever seen. I am talking about max flamboyance here." The Sound Hashira, Uzui Tengen joined in, to which your Master, the Love Hashira grimaced a little, thinking if it's really okay to rush the trial like this.

"Um...are you sure we should ignore Master's orders?" You meekly butt in, to which the Flame Hashira pats your head to reassure you. "The Master only ordered you to stay put, worry not! We shall deal with the matter fairly!"

"What a pitiful boy he is, I pity him for being born at all." The Stone Hashira weeps in pity.

"Say, (Name) what was the shape of that cloud?" Muichiro calls out to you, "Oh! I think it looks like a bird. What do you think, Mui-kun?" You relaxed a bit.

"Hm, moreover, what will you do about Tomioka? Seeing him without any restraint is giving me a headache. Based on what Kocho told us, he is just as guilty." The Serpent Hashira, Iguro Obanai pointed an accusatory finger at the Water Hashira, to which the Insect Hashira, Kocho Shinobu gently chided him to be patient. Your eyes widened in surprise.

'Eh? Tomioka-sama is also guilty?' The Water Hashira stayed quiet, ignoring the stares on him.

"I am more interested in hearing the boy's story. I'd like to hear an explanation. You can take your time, just tell us why. " Shinobu curiously looked over towards Tanjiro, Tengen has raised an objection however. The boy struggled to answer, causing Shinobu to give him some painkillers.

"That demon is my younger sister!" He proeeced to explain his situation with hopeful eyes. "Even though she's a demon, she has never devoured anyone and never will!"

'Tanjiro-kun, tanjiro-kun, you gotta give them proof first. There's no way anyone will believe you if you talk like that. I am not sure if there's even proof, just thinking about it seems impossible.' you scolded him inside your mind and shook your head. Iguro scoffed at his claims, saying he can't trust a word he's saying.

"Listen to me please! I became a demon slayer so that Nezuko can be cured! She has been a demon for two years yet she has not devoured any human!" Uzui seems to had enough of his rambling and cut him off, asking for proof instead.

Finally, Misturi spoke up, causing Tanjiro to desperately declare that his sister will fight alongside him.

"Hey..I see you all are having fun without me." The Wind Hashira appears from the shadows with a crazed grin, carrying the wooden box in one hand to which a Kakushi meekly requested him to put it down but got ignored instead. He mocked Tanjiro's claims and harshly stabbed the box with his blade, causing blood to spew out everywhere.

'Ehh!? He just stabbed it. What does he think he is doing? That's so disgraceful, soiling the garden like that!' you scolded him inside your mind, shock evident in your face.

Tanjiro angrily charged at the man, and Tomioka finally intervened, claiming that the Master will arrive soon. In a moment of blur, blood dripped down from the Wind Hashira's nose as Tanjiro headbutted him. You coughed a little to mask your laugh, unlike your Master who could not control it and let out a snort. She meekly apologised, covering her flushed face.

"If you can't tell the difference between a good demon and a bad demon, you should quit being a Hashira!!" He angrily yelled out, to which Sanemi angrily grabbed his sword, raising it against him.

"I will kill you!"

Just then, two familiar voices interrupted the commotion.

"The Master has arrived."

The rest of the meeting went in a blur.

"Tanjiro was able to prove that his sister is innocent, good for him, huh?" You absentmindedly brushed against Ryu's fur, feeling the smile creep up to your face. Animals sure have the therapeutic effect on people.

"A demon who doesn't eat humans? The world sure is full of strange things."

In joint missions, Muichiro and Kanao were the ones (Name) get paired up with often, much to her delight.
