Chapter 30
CHERRY BLOSSOMThe morning sun peeked through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room. Birds chirped happily outside, filling the air with their cheerful songs. The smell of freshly brewed coffee drifted from the kitchen, mixing with the scent of toast.
In the living room, a cat stretched lazily on the soft mattress, basking in the sunlight from the window. A clock ticked softly on the wall, marking the steady passage of time. The world was slowly waking up, each sound and scent adding to the start of a new day.
You quickly slide over to your cat, Ryu who was relaxing on your bed. Jumping on the bed, you happily bury your face in the cat's fur, nuzzling it contentedly. The cat lies down on his back, exposing his belly as if asking for rubs. His paw presses against your face, causing you to giggle heartily.
"You're still a greedy child, Ryu!"
But you don’t mind, of course. Holding the cat, you twirl around, laughing and standing in front of the mirror. Carefully holding the feline in your arms, you look at yourself in the mirror, wearing the new school uniform.
"Ryu, how do I look?"
The cat meows, as if saying, 'You look the best! The prettiest!'
You chuckle, wondering what he could mean by that meow. Suddenly, Ryu jumps away from you, noticing a bird perched near the window. You pout, "Ryu, you traitor. How dare you leave me."
Ryu lunges at the window, immediately slamming his face against the glass. In the end, the bird gets away, leaving Ryu looking around confused, wondering what had happened.
You shake your head, defeated, however you couldn't help but snort at the sight. You stand still in front of the mirror again, brushing away the stray fur that was from Ryu.
You look at yourself in the mirror, gently ruffling your hair to fix the image. Twirling in front of the mirror, you examine your school uniform and smile in satisfaction.
"(Name)! It's already past 7! If you don't hurry up and come down, you will miss both your breakfast and bus!"
Your mother, Misturi calls out from below, mentioning that you will be late if you don't come down and eat breakfast soon. You reply with an 'okay!' that was loud enough before running downstairs and sit on the dining chair. A few dishes lay in front of you, and you take a sandwich, biting into it and beaming at the delicious taste. Nothing can compare to a mother's cooking, after all. For a few minutes, you sit still and eat your breakfast quietly.
"Thank you for the meal!"
After that, you stand up and take your school bag.
"I will go now."
With that, you take off. Waiting at the bus stop, you huff for breath, exhausted. Running here right after eating wasn't ideal, but you're just glad you weren't late to catch the bus.
A young boy beside you sighs. He seems to be around your age. He has slightly messy short hair with turquoise-colored tips. He felt familiar. A frown tugs at his face as he rummages inside his bag and hands you a handkerchief. It's white with star-patterned shapes on all four edges.
You flush a bit, realizing you must look quite disheveled. "Thank you." You thank him with a bow before dabbing your sweaty forehead with the handkerchief. The young boy nods but doesn't say anything. You glance at him from time to time, hoping to ask his name.
Just then, he stands up and walks away. "Just take the handkerchief, no need to return it to me."
You stare at him in a daze, quietly watching him walk away and enter the bus. Wait, the bus? You watch in disbelief as the bus innocently drives away from the bus stop. You just missed the bus! It was right in front of you!
It seems that you are destined to run. So you do, shoving the handkerchief inside your bag, you started running with all your might, whizzing past passersby in a flash.
'No good! No good! I seriously can't be late on my first day! Talk about making a bad impression!' Scolding yourself in your mind, you run ahead. You imagine the teacher asking your reason for being late. You can't tell them you missed your bus because you were gawking at a handsome boy. That is simply too embarrassing.
You barely avoid Tomioka-sensei's eyes as you sneak past the school gate and sprint toward the main building. You let out a relieved sigh, leaning on the wall to catch your breath. It's only the first day, yet everything is going wrong.
After catching your breath, you fix yourself up and decide to find your classroom.
Just then, a voice calls out to you.
"Miss, you just dropped your handkerchief."
You turn around to meet the boy from before. Or was it? He possessed the same turquoise-colored hair on the tips, just like the boy from before, he has the same eyes, they were identical. Perhaps, they were twins? Or is it the same person? However, he wears a slightly nonchalant expression, and his hair looks a bit different. In his hand is your star-patterned handkerchief.
Realising he was waiting for you to take the handkerchief, you snapped out of your daze.
"Oh! Thank you."
You take the handkerchief, staring at the boy who was beginning to leave before mouthing a 'no problem'. You got the same, familiar feeling, as if you met him before.
You had a lot of questions inside your mind.
But for now, you want to know his name.
You catches up with him, casually striking up a conversation. You couldn't imagine doing that to anyone else. However, he just felt too familiar. And you felt like you have done this countless times before.
"Say, what's your name?"
The boy glances at you, and reply in a calm voice.
"Tokito Muichiro."
