Ahri's POV
"Rae-!"

My feet hammered against the ice, claws scraping for grip.

I didn't feel the frost biting into them.

Didn't hear the chaos.

Didn't hear the howls. The dying dragons. The clash of steel under a burning sky.

I only saw her.

Rae.

Collapsed.

Bleeding.

Barely breathing.

Sprawled in the snow-arm outstretched, fingers twitching.

My chest cinched so tight it hurt.

Please.

No.

Her voice still rang in my head, faint and jagged:

"... don't... come..."

And I ran faster.

My tails streamed behind me, trailing embers as if they could keep the cold at bay.

No thought. No plan.

Only her-fading before my eyes.

"RAYNE!"

I was almost there-

WHIP!

Something yanked me sideways, clamping tight around my waist.

"NO-LET ME GO!"

Evelynn.

She didn't answer-just dragged me back, away from Rae.

I hit the ground hard, skidding across frozen stone. My palms scraped raw, lungs locking up on air so cold it burned.

"Evelynn, what are you-?!"

HOOO-

The sound came first-low, hollow, like the world exhaling its last breath.

Then the cold hit.

The sky blanched.

Nihil's jaws opened, and the blast came-blue fire that wasn't fire at all. Cold so deep it killed heat on contact.

Frostfire ripped across the battlefield, and everything went still.

Stone split. Obsidian turned white in an instant and crumbled. Even the air crystallised-shattering into glittering shards that fell like knives.

The cold punched into my chest. My breath stuck halfway out, freezing in my throat. Heat bled from me so fast it left me hollow.

I turned-just in time to see it reach her.

The vapour swallowed her.

"RAYNE!!!"

White.

Everything went white.

The blast hit-silent, heavy, like the sky itself had dropped on us.

And then... nothing.

She was gone.

Only ice remained-jagged, gleaming, clutching around her like a predator guarding its kill.

I staggered forward, knees trembling.

"No... no..."

I reached for her. For where she should be.

My hands met ice.
