Chapter Sixty Seven

It was the Christmas break. George and Malcolm elected to go to their worlds, as did the Bug.

"You haven't had Christmas if you haven't had it in the greenwood, roast venison and mead and berries and apples," said Malcolm. "Lovely. You are more than welcome to join me."

"Thanks Malcolm," said Adam. "I'm going to join Brigitte and have Christmas with Father Christmas and his family."

So they made their way across the multiverse in the great space ship. Jake came as well and there was a brilliant surprise when they reached the big wood building, Adam found his mother and father there too, waiting for them.

They met Father Christmas and he was as Adam had expected, a fat jolly man with a white beard and hair. There was his wife, a tall black woman wearing a long blue dress and holding Brigitte's baby brother. Adam met the elves, all little people and he had Brigitte and Jake played computer games with them, had snowball fights outside and went sledding.

Adam and Brigitte showed off their medals. Both gold and platinum medals had the same design, crossed swords against a back ground of stars and planets.

"I'm so proud of you and Jake," said Adam's father. "You for saving the multiverse and Jake for putting up with that long ordeal without cracking."

On Christmas morning they exchanged gifts. Brigitte gave Adam her gift. He unwrapped it and found a framed photograph inside the wrapping. The photograph was of him, Brigitte, the Bug, Malcolm and George all huddled together. On the frame were the words, Best friends forever.

"You remember I took a selfie of us with my smart phone?" said Brigitte. "I put it in a silver frame for you. I got one for myself."

They hugged each other. Christmas dinner was a sumptuous affair with a huge turkey, a huge ham and a huge goose.

"Where do you get all this food from?" said Adam. Then he stopped himself. "Magic."

"No," said Father Christmas. "We get a food delivery every month, weather permitting. On this world the spirit of Christmas is considered very important."

Adam shook his head. "I cannot believe I am having Christmas dinner with Father Christmas and his elves. Somebody pinch me."

Brigitte pinched him. "There you go."

There was much eating and drinking and the pulling of crackers and groaning at the jokes within. And the high pitched plaintiff voice of Tiny Tim, the smallest of Father Christmas' elves and brother of the tallest of Father Christmas' elves, Big Ben, made this declaration.

"God bless us all everyone."
