Chapter Fifty Five
The children were served a sumptuous meal aboard the star ship. Adam felt relieved and happy and it was so cool being the only people aboard this vast space ship, and of course Captain Trinity.
They returned to the Nexus. Adam felt exhausted and after being transported to the building of House Blue, Adam went straight to his room, kicked off his shoes and lay on the bed. He fell into a deep sleep.
When he awoke he saw Malcolm sitting on the edge of his bed. Adam moistened his lips.
"I heard you been in another adventure. Thanks for leaving me behind."
Adam sat and shook his head. "You would not have liked it. We went a couple of days without food or water and that was it. I know how you like your food and drink."
"Which reminds me, ready for breakfast?"
Adam, Brigitte, the Bug, George were at breakfast. Adam and Malcolm sat with their trays but Malcolm sat playing with his food.
"How's your father?" said Brigitte.
"I haven't heard from him. I asked Trinity about it but the masked man could give me nothing. My dad and his Merry Men may all be hanged by now."
"Malcolm, if it's any consolation," said Adam. "All our parents are in peril."
"Yours isn't."
"They're fighting a battle. They could die. Anyway what about my brother? What about Brigitte's parents?"
"I don't think you're helping Adam," said George.
"Then there's my dad," said the Bug. "Last I heard he was on trial for his life. Now I heard nothing."
Adam looked around. "From what I heard just about everyone here has family in trouble."
"I know somebody who isn't," said Malcolm.
He gestured to a vending node around which were gathered Clifford Watt, Lady Whitesnake's daughter and Caliban.
"They're probably enjoying themselves. Oh look they're coming over."
So they were, the three with their trays approached the group huddled around the table. Malcolm put an arrow into his bow and Adam grabbed the arrow.
"Put that away!"
Malcolm glared at Adam but, grumbling, put the arrow back in its quarrel.
"I hear you got yourself into a spot of bother," said Watt. "Brodie, you're going to wish you died in that cartoon universe because what's coming is really bad."
Here Watt's visor displayed Adam being dragged away amidst fire and black smoke, by dark figures. Adam was screaming in the vision.
"Just a friendly warning," said Watt. "Actually it's a prediction and I'm going to enjoy watching you lot suffer."
The trio walked away, laughing.
"What does he mean?" said Adam.
"He's trying to wind you up," said Brigitte.
"No, think of all the trouble in the multiverse. He's involved, I'm positive."
Brigitte said. "We got the entire force of cosmic champions on our side. What could go wrong?"
"Look around Brigitte, plenty's going wrong. Our family, what's happened to them? I got a hunch we're all going to find out soon."
Adam scanned the room. The noise from the students was muted. He knew well enough most of them had loved ones who were in trouble or vanished. The fact that Watt was almost gleeful told Adam that he was definitely involved and right now, Adam took the senior's warning seriously.
