The alarm clock rang, waking the two girls.

Max's hair was all disheveled, while Maya wore a silk cap to protect her curls. Maya wore plaid pajama pants and a long, knee-length T-shirt, while Max wore a long T-shirt and shorts.

- I forgot, we have class today.

- Well, we still have to go.

- Yeah, you're right.

After cuddling Maya, Max quickly set off with her skateboard.

Maya dressed quickly, perfected her hair and headed off to breakfast. She slipped on a white T-shirt with black jeans and the same leather jacket she'd worn yesterday.

- So? did you sleep well?

- Yes, Mum.

- Is your friend back already?

- Yes, don't worry.

Maya, already dressed, took her breakfast in her hand and went to call on her mother.

- See you tonight, Maya.

- Love, Mom.

Maya left the house, carrying her backpack in her other hand.

She climbed on her bike and started pedaling.

she turned up the music and launched California Dreamin'.

She started pedaling very fast, saw a slope and had to descend it. Her bike started rolling very fast, unfortunately she fell on the ground and started rolling on the ground.

- Holy shit! Ah, it hurts like hell!

Seeing her leg completely torn off by the concrete floor, she tried to walk to the grassy area beside the road.

She saw lots of cars driving by without realizing that Maya was dying of pain. She looked to her left to see if her bike was there, but fortunately it was.

In the distance, she saw a familiar-looking car pull up in front of Maya. It was Max, and she got out of the car and ran towards the young girl.

- Maya! Are you all right?!

- Yes, look, everything's fine.

- Is that irony?

- Yes, it is.

Maya turned to show her friend, and made a noise that didn't reassure the wounded girl.

Max carried the girl into the car and began to get slightly annoyed with Billy, who didn't want a "strange girl" to get into his car more than once.

- Billy, that's it, stop being annoying. She's my friend, so she'll get in the car as much as she wants.

Billy grunted, got out of the car in a huff and slammed Max into the car.

- You're going to start by calming your nerves and getting your 'friend' out of the car.

Maya had had enough, despite the pain. She got up and got out of the car.

- There, asshole, I'm out of the car, what do you want now?

- Don't play the fool, you little shit.

- I won't.

Maya limped over, readied her fist and threw it in Billy's face.

- Come on, Maya!

Max took her on his back and they started running as fast as they could.

- He's annoying.

- But is it like this all the time?

- Yes, but sometimes it's worse. Last time, he had a fight with his father and that very afternoon he was babysitting me, and just because I didn't want to clear the table, he threw a plate at me, and luckily I avoided it.

- Oh yes, he was calm for you earlier on.

Max laughed, and Maya found his smile so charming and beautiful.

- But Maya, your leg is still bleeding.

- Ah, but we don't have anything to treat it, ah but, I know this forest, it's near my home.

- Are you sure about this?

- One hundred percent safe.

- Okay, hop on.

Maya did as Max asked and they began to walk slowly towards the Byers' house.

Max knocked sharply and waited for his friend's mother to open the door.

- Maya?

Maya was confused; she immediately recognized Hopper. She wondered why he was there, but didn't ask.

- Hopper?

- Sheriff Hopper?

- What are you doing here, Maya? Is everything all right?

- Maya was riding her bike down a hill and her bike fell off and her leg took quite a beating.

- Ah, I understand come inside. Joyce, it's Maya.

The two girls entered the house and Max laid his friend down on the sofa.

- You're all white, Maya, are you sure you're okay?

- Yes, I'm fine.

Hopper and Joyce knew she wasn't well and didn't want to tell anyone.

- I'll get the first-aid kit.

Joyce ran to the bathroom while Hopper and Max tried to calm Maya, who was in great pain.

- So, Maya, here, you're going to bite this because it's going to hurt.

Maya nodded and took the wooden spoon Joyce had handed her.

- On the count of three you start biting, 1,2,3!

Maya bit down as hard as she could and felt something cold on her leg that hurt like hell. She screamed with all her might, keeping the object in her mouth.

- It's almost over, Maya breathes.

Just then, Max grabbed the girl's hand to help her feel better.

- All I have to do is apply a bandage and we're good to go.

By surprise, the door to the house opened and it was Jonathan.

- Maya? Hopper?

Maya spat surprise at the wooden handle, which landed on the floor.

- Jonathan?

He ran to his little sister, she noticed he was worried, and sat down on the floor to make sure his sister was safe.

- That's it, you can get up now.

Maya felt no strength to stand up, but tried anyway. When she stood up, her vision was blurred and she felt dizzy. As the seconds passed, Maya felt her body fly away, she closed her eyes for a few seconds and when she opened them she saw that she was in her house but that she had changed.

- Max? Mommy? Jonathan? Hopper?

She spun around to see if they were all there, but unfortunately not.

- Max! Help me!

She sat down on the floor, curled into a ball and began to breathe very quickly. She felt her heart racing.

- Maya! Maya!

At that moment, Maya woke up to see the four of them sitting next to her, holding her hand.

- Are you all right? You froze, your eyes were weird and you didn't answer.

- Uh, yeah, I'm fine.

She sat back down on the sofa and took a deep breath.

she tried not to break down and lay down on the sofa, slowly falling asleep
