𝐃𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐍'𝐒 𝐁𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐒 𝐅𝐔𝐑𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐄𝐃 and her heart dropped seeing the animal bones in the cages at the petstore. She really tried not to think about how scared those poor cats and other animals were in the early days after being abandoned and trapped. They were probably terrified and hungry on top of that.

"They probably didn't suffer for long." A male voice said and Devin looked over to see Scott sitting against some shelves, holding his gunshot wound on his leg.

"How do you know?" The redhead asked, glancing back at the cages.

Scott sighed, tilting his head. "Typically cats can only survive without water for three. . . four days. Even longer without food, but I doubt they lived long enough to starve to death. Same for the other animals."

"Somehow all that made me sadder." Devin mumbled as she walked away from the front of the store. She found the cat food aisle and looked through the shelves.

"Nick and I are gonna go cause a distraction." Glenn quietly said, coming to stand beside Devin. "You and Michonne are gonna get the others back to Alexandria."

Devin let out a frustrated huff as she turned to look at him. "He got Noah killed and now you're gonna run off with him?" She scoffed, shaking her head. "That's suicide. He'll get you killed too."

The man sighed and shook his head. "You ain't gonna change my mind, Dev." He told her firmly. "We can't let those walkers get to Alexandria. This is the only way. I just wanted to let you know."

His words made her roll her eyes. "Okay. Whatever. Have fun gettin' eaten too." And with that Devin walked away from him. She was aware of how unfair she sounded in that moment, but she didn't care. She was just so damn tired of losing people. She was drawing a line at Glenn, so his dumbass better not get himself killed. She'd be seriously pissed at him for dying.

"𝐎𝐊𝐀𝐘, 𝐋𝐄𝐓𝐒 𝐆𝐎." Heath said, helping Scott and Annie stand up. That's when they started to hear gunfire. Devin looked over at Michonne with furrowed brows as walkers started to pass by the doors.

"The ones from down the street and in the alley, they're getting drawn by the gunfire." Michonne spoke lowly. "Soon as they clear, we head for the feed store. Till then we sit tight, keep quiet."

"Of course." Devin whispered as she lowered herself to the ground.

About five minutes passed before the survivors started to hear a clanking sound come from the back of the store. Devin's eye brows knitted together as she grabbed her baseball bat and followed Michonne to the back. The older woman nodded for her to pull down the dog curtain. Cautiously, Devin reached forward and yanked the thing down to reveal a metal door.

Michonne then pushed the door open and out came two walkers. She killed the first one and Devin swung her bat at the one crawling on the ground, crushing its skull.

"They know we're here now." Heath spat as the walkers started pounding on the door. "We can't wait them out. The herd, it's gonna be here any minute."

Michonne walked over to the front door and peaked through the window. "What is it?" Devin asked, approaching her. She looked outside and her stomach did a flip. It was too late, the herd was there. She took a deep breath and glanced over at Michonne. "I say open the door, shoot the five tryin' to get in and make a run for it." She suggested.

Michonne nodded. "Lets do it." She and Devin yanked the doors open and the two men that hadn't been hurt shot the walkers. "Go!" She yelled and they all took off sprinting.

Annie let out a yelp as she fell to the ground. "Just run!" She screamed at her people, wanting them to just save themselves. "Go!"

For the first time since the world ended, Devin actually ran when it was time to go. Sometimes running was all that there was left to do.

The remaining five reached a dead end. "There!" Devin pointed at something they could use to climb over the gate that separated them from safety from the herd.

"You and Heath go over first, and then we'll help Scott." Michonne told her as she took Devin's bat from her and threw it over the gate, giving her no other choice but to follow it.

"No! They're coming. Just go!" Scott demanded as Devin hoped over the gate followed by Heath.

"No! We're doing this!" Michonne yelled and she, with the help of David, helped Scott over the gate. Then she and David climbed at the same time.

Suddenly walkers grabbed onto David's legs. Michonne managed to climb over the walkers got to David. His screamed as he got torn apart.

Not being able to handle his pained screams anymore, Devin walked forward and grabbed the gun that Heath had sticking out of his holster before aiming it at David's head. The shot rang off when she out a bullet in the suffering man's head.

"Devin." Michonne sounded surprised as she looked at the girl with tears in her eyes.

Devin shrugged, putting Heath's gun back in his holster. "I'd want the same done to me." She muttered before walking away. "We need to get home."
