"I'm sorry, you and Shane did what?" I ask after I've spluttered my coffee all over the table.

"We slept together," Jane says simply, taking a sip from her straw.

We're currently in the small café close to campus, grabbing coffee before the next class starts. The noise and chatter of the cafe fades into the background as I stare at Jane, trying to process what she just said.

"You... slept together," I repeat, more to myself than to her.

"Yes," she replies, her voice calm and steady as if she just mentioned the weather. "It just happened."

"It just happened?" I echo incredulously. "How does something like that just happen?"

Last time I saw them together they were at each other's throat, and now they're in the same bed?

What is happening?

Jane sets her drink down and looks at me with a mix of patience and slight exasperation. "I know it sounds crazy, but it was one of those nights where things just clicked. We were studying late at his place, arguing as usual, and then suddenly... we weren't."

I nod, trying to understand what is happening. "You know I love Shane, but he doesn't really have the best reputation when it comes to girls," I say.
