Before we turn out the lights and close our eyes.

I'll tell you a secret, I've held all my life.

It's you that I live for and for you I die.

So I'll lay here with you, till the final goodbye

"We'll be fine, Jenna

"We'll be fine, Jenna. It's not the first time I'm babysitting little Scott," I tell my sister, pinching Scott's chubby cheeks.

Jenna grabs her scarf and sighs. "I know, I'm sorry. I'm just really nervous about this date."

"It sounds like you're going on your first date with Patrick. You're married, sis," I chuckle as she pulls on her coat.

Jenna smiles at me before turning to check her hair in the mirror. I follow her down the hall.

"Okay, don't forget to feed him. You know where the food is. You can make something for yourself or order a pizza. Here's a twenty if you need it. We'll be home by eleven, I promise. Just call if anything hap—"

I grab her arm, and she looks at me. "Jenna, we'll be okay! Take a deep breath. Now go, Patrick is waiting," I say, opening the door. I see Patrick in the driver's seat. When he sees me, he waves before signalling Jenna to hurry up.

Jenna kisses Scott on the forehead before ruffling my hair with a big grin on her face. "Love you guys. See you soon."

She climbs into the car, and they both wave before backing down the driveway and onto the road. I close the door and walk back to the living room, placing Scott on the floor. He reaches for his Spider-Man figure and starts to play with it. I sit down by the one-year-old toddler and turn on the TV.

An hour later, Scott starts to fuss and points at his belly. I pick him up, attaching him to my hip, and make my way to the kitchen. I place him on his stool and prepare some tomato pasta and boiled vegetables. When I'm done, I place the plate in front of him and hand him a spoon. When he starts to eat with his hands, I take the spoon from him and feed him.

"Good boy," I smile when he's done. I clean his face and hands before grabbing him and walking back to the living room, leaving the dishes for later.

After an hour of playing, he crawls onto my lap and lays his head on my chest. I pat his back as I hum, and soon his whole body relaxes and he falls asleep. I stand up and carry the sleeping boy upstairs to his room. After tucking him in, I grab the monitor Jenna told me to keep with me, and walk downstairs.

I watch old episodes of How I Met Your Mother while I eat the pizza I ordered. I have already checked on Scott twice since he fell asleep.

Just as my eyes start to droop, my phone rings. I jump up from the couch, dropping a slice of pizza as I jog to the kitchen. I grab my phone and put it to my ear. "Hello?"

"Am I speaking to Ms. Kaylee Bell?" a woman asks on the other side of the line.

"You are," I say. "Who's this?"

"I'm calling from City Hospital. I've been trying to reach Mrs. and Mr. Knight, but I couldn't get an answer. I'm calling on behalf of your sister, Jenna Knight, and her husband. They've been in an accident," she says.

Everything is a blur after that sentence.

Somehow I manage to walk up the stairs, my breath coming out in puffs. I walk into Scott's room, grab his Spider-Man bag, and pack a blanket and his Spider-Man soft toy. I pick him up and place him on my hip, his head on my shoulder. I hurry downstairs, grab my car keys, and open the door.

I place Scott in his baby seat and secure the seatbelt before I climb in and start the car. I back out of the driveway and onto the road. The drive to the hospital takes about twenty minutes. After parking the car, I climb out and get Scott. I leave his bag in the car before locking it and moving towards the building. With every step, my heartbeat increases and my breath hitches. I keep my tears from falling as I move towards the information desk.

The woman behind the desk looks up when I approach. "My sister and her husband," I swallow when my voice cracks. "I'm Kaylee Bell." I take a deep breath. "They've been in an accident."

"Can you tell me their names, darling?" She asks.

"Right," I rush out. "Jenna and Patrick Knight."

She types on the keyboard and stares at the screen before looking back at me. "Second floor, first waiting room. They're in surgery—"

My feet start to move on their own accord. I take the elevator up to the second floor. When the doors slide open, I take a left and stop in my tracks when I see a familiar face.

"Zach," I manage to say.

His head whips around, and his eyes widen when he sees me with his nephew sleeping in my arms. He's in his sweats, and his shoes are untied. His green eyes are glassy, and his hair is a mess. I walk over to him and stand beside him. He leans down and kisses Scott's head before leaning back against the wall and closing his eyes.

"Are you Mr. and Mrs. Knight's family?" I hear a voice behind me. I don't look at the doctor and keep my eyes on Zach's chest.

Then I close my eyes and hope for good news.

They're okay. They're okay. They. Are. Okay.

"I'm sorry, we couldn't..." I don't hear the rest of his sentence as a scream leaves my lips and I fall to my knees, with Scott still sleeping in my arms, oblivious to his parents' deaths.
