Heartstrings in Play

Chapter 1

It was a day like any other day. I was on my daily routine before I went to work. I arrive at work early. I went to work as a nurse at the hospital. I worked all day then I started the night shift .I hate the night shift. My  dad called me and we spoke for about thirty minutes while I was eating.

After I finished eating I walked out of the nurses station and I see this man on his phone. I thought I could walk around him. I don't want to interrupt him so I just walk on to my first patient .  After a long night I left the hospital and walked to my car. I hop into my car. I start my car, I drive home, I arrive home and I stop the car. I hop in the car. I lock the car and decide to go for a run. I ran down the street. It feels so good to run when I see  the woods. I ran towards the woods .
As I'm running I look up at the same man from the hospital who was there I think to myself. Is he following me? . After about an hour I started to run  home.  When I arrive home I walk inside after unlocking the door I pull my phone out. I looked at my phone,  No one called. I walk into the kitchen, I open the fridge and take   a drink I close the fridge . My phone rings. I look at my phone and I see that it's a  random number.  I think  that's odd .  I let the phone ring out . I walk to the bedroom with my drink. I put my drink on my bedside, I walk to the cupboard, I take out my night clothes I change into my night clothes I walk to the bed I climb into bed I drink my drink and fall asleep.

I wake up  early, get ready, leave the house, lock the house and I start running down the road . I looked around and saw the same man was standing on the side street . He's everywhere I turn. I thought.  I  stopped running and walked up to him. I started to talk to him .

"Can I take you out for coffee?" He asked me

"You don't even know my name." I said laughing.

Looking at me all puzzled, he says, " I'm sorry I just saw a beautiful girl and wanted to get to know her."

I laugh and say " I'm Mariah."

He smiles and says "I'm Jake."

After we talk for an hour he walks me home. I thank him. I walk inside after I open the front door,  I walk to the stereo I put music on , and start dancing all over the house.

Two weeks later Jake  and I  started dating and we became inseparable. After a few weeks I found out  he had a few secrets of his own and I did too.  I know  I'm not the sweet innocent girl everyone thought  his secrets ran deep though.

I walk out of my house. I walk to my friend's house. My two best friends were there. I walked inside and I sat down after hugging them. I tell them about Jake. We decided we needed a  spa day. After I spent time with the girls I left I walked outside and I felt something was off.

I don't know what I was feeling. I need to talk to Jake .  I knew something was wrong. After a week went by I went to see him and I saw him with a little boy. I shed a tear as he played me. I ran  as far as I could. Jake looks up and he runs after me. I run faster. I lost him. I think he lied to me. He has a son.  Why didn't he tell me? I stopped. I started  to cry until I couldn't breathe.

Why can't I just be happy? I thought to myself. I just want to be loved and feel loved. I ran home and turned my phone off. I go inside and lock the door. I hear a car and I look out the window . What is he doing here? I thought to myself. I take a deep breath and walk outside to him.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him.

"I think we should talk Mariah."

I stand  beside his car.  I  take a deep breath.

"Okay  what about ?" I say without looking at him.

He looks at me , " I have a son... his name is Henry ."

I  walk off and I walk to the porch. " When were you going to tell me?'

Jake hops out of his car Jake  walks to me and hugs me. I turn around.

" You were not going to tell me were you?"
He does not answer me. I walk away from him, I walk inside and close the door  .

"M talk to me. ".

"Why should I? You kept this secret  from me!"

" I was going to tell you." He says .

" How old is he ?" I asked I can't believe  he hid this away from me.

" He is ten , and I want you to meet him." He takes a deep breath not knowing how I would react.

" You have a ten year old son?" I asked .

" He stays with my parents," he said.

" Why did you hide him from me ? We are together. " I start to cry.

"I'm sorry baby I should have told you about him. " He says I open the door.

I look  at him. " Yeah you should have. Do you not trust me ?"

He looks at me right in my eyes and says " Yes I do trust you Mari, but I did not think you would want me after you found out about him. "

I roll my eyes. He laughs and smiles.

" You're an idiot J." I say, crossing my arms.

He puts his hand under my chin and lifts my head so our eyes meet. Right as we are about to kiss his phone rings. He pulls his phone out of his pocket and puts his phone on silent.

" You're upset I can stay here with you.  you need me right now." He says putting his phone away in his pocket.

" Yeah I am upset you did not tell me until I saw you with him .. I just wish you told me sooner ." I say pushing him away from me.

" You're shutting me out ." he says, crossing his arms.

" No crap I am shutting you out Jake. " I say .

" I am sorry Mariah ." he says he  tries to hold my hand.

I look at him , and our eyes meet. There is more he is hiding , but what? . I mean we have not even done the ritual. I told him I love him he never said  I love you back . I take a deep breath. Jake looks at me . I wonder  why  are we  together? If he keeps this from me , what else is he  hiding? Should I just walk away?
