Heartstrings in Play

Chapter 3

Hours go by and Jake has not called me or came to the hospital. I stayed with my dad all night. How could I have been so stupid. What he told me that day still runs through my mind. 'I love you but I'm not in love with you' it still runs deep.
"Hey baby". I hear a familiar voice. I turn around and it's Jake.
"What are you doing here Jake?" I asked him as I leaned against the door post.
He laughs and says,
"Baby I'm taking care of your dad today." He says with a smile like nothing ever happened between us.
I just kiss my dad's cheek and leave the room. I go for a run. I had to walk away from him. All of a sudden I turn into a wolf and keep running.  I hear footsteps so I hide behind a tree.
"No mom, I just met her yesterday. I think it could be true love."
I just stared at him.  Is that Cole ? I thought to myself.  I run as fast as I can to my house, change my clothes, and drive to the hospital.  The nurse told me Jake wants to see me as soon as I walk through the door. As soon as I walk in I see Jake kissing another girl. My heart sank as I watched him kiss her. I ran out of the office crying.
"Jake, who was that?" She asked.
"Wait what". He said as stopped and looked.
"Jake there was a girl that came in your office and she left crying" she said sitting on the desk.
He runs after me.
" Mariah wait!" he yells as he runs after me.
He stops me and I turn toward him. He grabs my arm.
" Jake let me go. Don't touch me! " I say as I jerk my arm away from him.
He just stands there.  Crossing his arms he just looks into my eyes.
"Mariah please let me explain."  He says in a calm voice.
I laugh and walk away from him.
" Why did you even come after me? You don't even love me like I love you."   I said just as tears were rolling down my face.
" I don't know what to tell you Mariah." He said, crossing his arms.
I turn toward him and say.  "Try telling me the truth Jake."
He takes a deep breath and says. "I'm still married. She's my wife. When we met I thought she wasn't coming back."
My jaw drops. "Oh my gosh!  So not only do you have a son now you're married. Get away from me."
I backed away from him. "Go be with your wife Jake." I said as I crossed my arms.
My heart sank as I was saying that , but I could not let him see how broken I really was. I had to fake a smile and hide the pain, and that's exactly what I did. I was always taught to hide my emotions, and never show them ever.
" Mariah I-" he started to explain as he was searching for the words to say.
" Jake, stop. I can tell you are searching for the words to make this better, ''You were my first love , kiss , and no matter what I will always love you." I say as I take a deep breath and hold back the tears.
I walk away from him.
" Mariah!" He yells as he runs to me.
I turn toward him and he hugs me.
" Bye Jake." I say as I hug him back and kiss his cheek.
He leaves my house and goes back to Alexia. weeks go by and we hardly talk like we used to. My phone rings and it is Sam. I answer it
" Hey girl what's up?" I say as I answer my phone.
" Come on, get out of the house, it's been weeks since I miss my sister." she says as she's pulling up my driveway.
I hang up the phone and open the door. Sam gets out of her car and walks in my house.
" Go get a shower, we are going clubbing, and do not tell me no you need a girls night." she says as she is going through my closet.
I laugh and go get a shower. thirty minutes later she had my clothes everywhere. I get ready and we go to a club. We laugh, drink, and dance a lot.
"Mariah don't turn around but there's a guy that has been staring you down since we got here." Sam says to me as she takes a sip of her drink.
I turn and look at the guy and our eye lock and it sends a sudden chill down my spine. Sam looks at me and shakes me. the guy walks to me.
" What are you doing out this late princess?" he says with a smile.
Sam gets up and goes outside.
" Oh I'm not a princess I'm anything but- " I say laughing.
I look around for Sam hoping she didn't leave me
The guy kisses my cheek and whispers in my ear making me smile.
Sam walks back to me the guy leaves as Sam sits down. Sam looks at me.
" I think he likes you." She said winking at me.
I just laugh.  He had something about him that was kind of daring to me  and I liked it. I stayed with Sam that night.  I look at my phone, and it's the mysterious guy from the club.   The text said
- Hey beautiful just thinking of you hope to see you again.
I smile as I see what his name was on my phone. He is very sneaky I thought laughing.  my phone rings again.
- There will be a rose for every moment I think about you. Just wait mi amore our paths will soon cross again.
I read the message and think.  How does he know where I live or anything about me. I thought to myself.   I go home later that day.  I open my front door and find roses everywhere.  I walk all through the house and there's rose petals leading to my bedroom with a dress and a note.
The note reads ,  hey baby girl get dressed and be ready by six tonight i'll have my driver waiting on you then. - love sage.
I smile as I read the note.  I go and get ready.  It's getting close to six and there's a car in my driveway.  I look at myself over then walk outside. I get into the car, his driver takes me to a location where I'll meet sage. He walks outside and walks to me.  He kisses my cheek and grabs my hand.
" You look amazing,"  he said with a smile.
we walk inside. I walk around the house and look around the house.
" You like the house?" he asks me as he walks to me.
I look at him and ask,
" Where are we?"
He just looks at me and smiles.
" This is my house baby." He says putting his arms around my waist.
I just look at him and smile.
"It's pretty, I love it."
" Go on exploring the house, I don't mind a bit." He said, kissing my head.
I just smile at him, and look around. I could definitely get lost in this house I thought to myself.  I walk in the kitchen and find a hidden compartment for wine and champagne. He walks in the kitchen. He looks at me and smiles.
"Make yourself at home sweetheart. I have anything you could think of."
I walk to him and hug him and hug him.
"Thank you so much. I know you don't know me or much about me but I feel like I can be myself with you."
He smiles and kisses my cheek.
"Anything for you baby."
We both grab a drink , walk outside to the pool , and we talk for hours on end.
