Heartstrings in Play

chapter 9

I just put my arms around his neck.

" You could have any girl in the world... why me why did you choose me."

Sage takes a deep breath.

" The day we met I knew you were it for me. I was searching for something that I didn't even know  I was looking for and I found it in you. You complete me Mari."

He said as he put his arms around my waist.  I start to tear up.

" Sage what are we?"

I asked him as I looked into his eyes.  He looks back in my eyes.

" That's a good question. We are complicated aren't we.   I want you to always be mine."

He said with a smile.

" We are very complicated sage."

I said laughing.

"Let's change that love."

He said as he pressed his hand on my lower back.  I took a deep breath and thought to myself.... Is he really willing to give up everything just for me? I'm not asking him to do any of it. He kisses me.

" Are you sure you want to do this"?

I asked him as I looked into his hazel eyes. He was as serious as could be. Not knowing what to say next Sage says this.

" I love you Mariah."

Hearing that my heart stopped. My jaw dropped.

"I love you Sage."

I take Sage's hand. He looked at me like I was the only thing he was sure about in his life. For the next two hours we sat on the bed in the hotel room and talked about everything. Next thing I knew my phone rang and it was Jett.  He wanted to meet. I told Sage Sage nods his head and gets up and kisses my cheek. I smile as Sage walks out of the room and leaves for a few hours. Jett wanted me to meet him so I did just that. About an hour later I meet Jett at the park in town.

" Hello love."

He says as he walks up to me. Hearing his voice came flashbacks of four years ago. Of all the fighting,  the pain, the yelling, the bruises, all the nights I cried myself to sleep, and all the nights he would just leave me in the cold because he had to go drinking.

" What do you want Jett?"

I said as I crossed my arms.

" I want you back."

He says with a smirk on his face. Hearing that I started Trembling in fear. He gets closer to me and touch's my face. All of a sudden I think to myself.... Why now?  Was he a part of my brother and mother going missing ? Was he the one who put my dad in the hospital?

"You're still mine Mariah."

He said in a dominant tone.

" No, I am not Jett. You never gave me a ring so you can't claim me."

I said backing away from him. He grabs my arm. All the sudden I am covered in chills, because I have never feared for my life this much. I never know what to expect from him. One minute he is  loving and sweet , and the next his personality changes to a side I don't like and scared of

" I said you are coming with me Mariah Jett says

Jett yelled at me.

" Let me go Jett. I don't want you."

I said as I slapped him suddenly I fell a ache on my head I pass out I wake up a few hours later I start running after I look around I see Jett suddenly chasing me.

"Why are you running?" Jett says

He said as he ran after me. I just kept running until I found this old abandoned building.  Scared for my life I ran inside. I didn't care, I just went into an old room. I looked around. All of a sudden I heard a scream.  I go into the next room and open the door.  Jett is still chasing me. I lean against the wall and look around. Hearing his footsteps I knew he was close. I tried to move but couldn't. It was like my body was frozen with fear.

" Mariah, I know you are here!"

He said as he searched each room.  My heart sank with each step he took. All of a sudden I heard a faint voice.

·Mari be careful he will kill you. He almost killed us.

I would know that voice anywhere. It's faint but that's my brother. I turned I looked around the room I saw my brother and mother I ran to Luke and  hugged him. As I hug him my  emotions come to the surface as I started to cry.

" Don't cry Mariah. We are okay"

Luke said as he tried to hug me back as he was so weak. How long have you been here ? I thought to myself.  As soon as Jett heard me he ran to the room I was in. I froze as he stood behind me.

" Hello love."

He said in a chilling voice and a smirk on his face. I stood up and turned toward him. He walks to me, and tries to touch me.  Luke watches his every move.

" Don't touch my sister!"

Luke tries to scream at Jett. Jett opens his coat revealing a gun. My mom and my brother just lay there as they can't move. I wanted to cry just looking at them. They looked so helpless.

" What did you do to them, Jett?"

I asked him with tears rolling down my face. He looks at me right in the eyes. When I looked back at him. They were as cold and heartless as I have ever seen them.  Heartless as he could he said,

" I told you from the beginning Mariah you are mine. You should have never ran from me. Now your mother, father and brother are hurt because you left me."

My jaw drops. I'm literally in shock.  This is the one moment I didn't know what to do. My mom and my brother, let alone my father, are hurt. Tears start falling from my eyes.  Jett pulls out his gun and points it at me.

"I told you you were mine."

At that point I felt completely helpless and defenseless.  There was nothing I could do. As I looked at my mom and brother I wanted to help them.  They were beaten and bruised. Luke looks worse than Elena. 

" I was never yours Jett."

I screamed at him. He cocks the gun ready to shoot. I start shaking and Trembling in fear.

" Oh yeah look at your hand. I put a ring on your finger when I knocked you out .

I look at my left hand and there was a small ring on my finger .   That was not there before.  I thought to myself.

" I'm not your property."

I asked him, scared of his reaction. He lowers his gun and looks me in the eyes.

" There's only one way you can remove it and I don't think you can do it"

Jett said laughing.  I think to myself  Come on, you are better than this. Don't let him get to you.  I take a step back to where I'm against the wall. I look at Luke and my mom one more time.  My eyes fill with rage knowing he hurt my family.
